Rep. Berman: Terrorists who hatched plan against governor must face full force of the law

This was not political discourse. This was extremism right here in our state – and it has no place in our society. I’m thankful members of law enforcement were following this and were able to act.

Most of all, I’m thankful the governor and her family are safe. We can have different political views. We can disagree on how the state should operate, but this is a line that can’t ever be crossed or approached. Period. People who do will face stiff consequences for their actions.

State Rep. Ryan Berman said the suspects who allegedly planned to abduct and harm Gov. Gretchen Whitmer must face the full force of the law.

Today I testified before the Senate Oversight Committee in support of my legislation to increase government transparency. It was advanced out of the Committee in a unanimous bipartisan vote and will now move to the Senate floor for final consideration. You can view the full text of the bill here: http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2019-HB-5015.

As I've said all along; the issue isn't whether you agree or disagree with the Governor's orders and handling of the pandemic, but rather if it should've been only up to her/one person to make these decisions for over 6 months now. This isn't a partisan issue, but a constitutional one. Our system of government was set up with checks and balances between and among the three branches. One individual (or branch) should not have unfettered unilateral power, and our Michigan Constitution specifies that one branch shall not exercise the powers properly belonging to another branch. The Michigan Supreme Court got it right today in ruling that Gov. Whitmer's authority to keep extending her own power is unconstitutional.

Former UM football player talks holding institutions accountable for sexual predators

I joined survivor and former U of M football player, Jon Vaughn, for an important conversation with Michigan Radio discussing the "Empowering Survivors" legislative package. Jon's story, along with so many others, is why it is critical to support them in seeking justice.

In February, the Detroit News broke the story about allegations of abuse involving former University of Michigan sports doctor Robert Anderson. Since then,

New Berman Bills Empower Survivors of U-M Doctor’s Sexual Abuse with New One-Year Window to Seek Damages and Reduced Governmental Immunity

This morning I announced the bipartisan "Empowering Survivors" legislative package with Rep. Karen Whitsett. Many survivors of abuse at the hands of disgraced U-M Dr. Robert Anderson are looking for justice. We must empower them, as well as any additional survivors who may come forward, so that they may receive justice in a court of law.

Rep. Berman invites Michigan to honor Patriot Week with sponsored resolution

We lost nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001 – mothers, fathers, friends, relatives and heroic first responders who answered the call and put their lives on the line to save others. We’ll never get them back.

This resolution should serve as a reminder of that unprecedented day in our nation’s history. It also serves as a reminder of what America and its great people are all about as we move forward from a tragedy which is still seared into our minds.

State Rep. Ryan Berman, of Commerce Township, today introduced a resolution declaring the week of Sept. 11-17 as Patriot Week in the state of Michigan.

Rep. Berman plays instrumental role in state’s education restart for this fall - Mi House Repubs

We needed a safe and sensible plan for our kids so they are able to get an education as we come up on the school year.

Education paves the way for our future generations. It’s essential to their development. I wanted to make sure that road was not closed off this fall for our children.

This is a safe and sensible way forward that promotes learning for our kids.

Michigan drivers will finally be able to see savings on their car insurance rates.

After nearly 50 years of being forced to pay for the most expensive car insurance rates in the nation, the Legislature approved historic no-fault reforms to guarantee reduced car insurance rates for all Michigan drivers. These long-overdue reforms, which are now law, take effect today, July 1.

Drivers all across our state will now have more affordable options to help protect them and their families.

Speech in Support of House Resolution 277

I spoke on the House floor yesterday in support of my resolution to discourage local units of government from defunding or abolishing their local police departments. Our local officers play a crucial role ensuring public safety, protecting the well-being of our families, and preventing crime and civil disorder. I believe reforms are needed to build trust and improve relationships between law enforcement officers and residents. But the push to end working relationships with departments that have served our communities for decades – and cutting jobs in the process – speaks to today’s polarization and not to practicality. My resolution was adopted by the Michigan House.

Over the past few days, I have heard concerns over my support for a recently introduced House Resolution which opposes the idea of unrestricted bailout money from the federal government to help with state budget shortfalls created by COVID-19. However, some clarity is needed. For my full thoughts, click and read below.

We in the State of Michigan need YOU! We MUST request an audit of the 2020 Election Results, not a recount. Where do you stand? Silence is NOT an option! #AuditoverRecount
Congratulations on your victory. We'll be counting on your support for a statewide mask mandate.
I got your flier today and it was very informative! Thanks for the info. I am now sure that my vote was in the right place, with Julia Pulver. All your anti-"socialist" rantings are just that. We already live in a Socialist Democracy. Is there something wrong with taking care of each other? Is it all you are capable of to lay blame and stretch the truth? There is NOT A SINGLE policy of YOURS on the entire page. Quit fear mongering.
Before I cast my ballot in this election, I would like to know what you are planning to do about armed persons at the Michigan State Capitol Building - Including "proud boys" ?????? School children who tour the building as part of their government studies should not be exposed to this danger, not to even mention the people who work there! What kind of example are we setting for our children? This needs to stop, regardless of the 2nd Amendment. I'm sure you must feel in your heart that this is not right. Thank you.
This summer, Ryan Berman's aide told me that Berman would never ban guns in the Capitol Building because these guys were "just exercising their Second Amendment Rights". Turns out, 2 of these protesters from the summer were involved in a plot to kidnap, try, and murder Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Berman is a gun-nut who is in the pocket of the NRA. Vote Julia Pulver. I'd trust a registered nurse over a GOP politician any day.
Rep. Berman, will you commit to supporting Michigan electors in the presidential election who will vote for the actual victor in the Michigan popular vote?
Representative Berman, This is an attempt by the leftist judge to steal the federal election. Take action on this immediately. Impeach this judge if necessary. This judge has no right to make this decision. The only body that has the duty and authority in MI to make this decision is the MI Legislature. It's time for the MI Legislature to assert their right and duty as the only entity in MI that sets deadlines regarding the election of electors. The US Constitution states that state legislatures...(it does not say 'judges'; it does not say executive branch officials...it says "Each State...Legislature therof may direct...". Pass a binding resolution that vacates this judge's decision. "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector." Article 1, Section 2, US Constitution.
MHSAA has been begging for clarification on the governors conflicting EO153 & EO176 since last Thursday. Our kids need to know the clarification after suddenly EO176 states that all athletes in competition must wear masks except while swimming. This conflicts with EO153 significantly and is not safe, especially for XC, as stated my many medical professionals the last few days. Is there any way you could assist on getting the clarification they are requesting? Thanks.
Thanks a lot for voting for the DeVos school reopening plan. I will do whatever I can to support whoever runs against you next time. Nice of all you repubs to disregard the health & safety of students & staff.
Thank you, for fighting for the people in nursing homes, assisted living, memory care and group homes. You did great on Fox 2 Let it Rip. People have no idea what is really happening in these homes. My mom pays $90,000 a year to be locked up from her family. She wasn’t being assisted with bathing or dressing due to lack of staff and COVID . We can’t even speak our 90 year old mother on the phone! Before COVID we talked to her anytime on THE PHONE. All the paperwork has gone missing with regards to Covid rules and the handling of patients. Feel free to reach out to me with our experience and dealing with a privately owned Memory Care in Rochester Hills. We have since had a professional move our Mom on Saturday to a new facility. Hopefully, she receives the care and attention she pays for.
I would like to talk to Ryan Bergman , I saw him on Let It R.I.P. about the governor and nursing homes I have a brother who had a stroke Jan.12 was put in a nursing home after a few days in St. Joes went to see him a couple of times with sister an his wife sometime in Feb. around the first couple of weeks he was in there for rehab his wife went there and doors were locked they said due to th Corinna Virus we have not been able to see him again still on lockdown. His wife can’t get any answers he was doing physical therapy and she don’t even know what is gong on with him to this day. Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation center off Hattchery rd. In Waterford. Don’t know who to turn to or what to do. Hope you can help. Thank you
Listening to you on Fox2 this morning. You are absolutely ridiculous and reckless. You lack professionalism clearly based on this interview and your inability to maintain composure. Completely disrespectful and a slap in the face to us healthcare professionals and providers. Sustain the inconvenience of wearing a mask to potentially keep yourself and your constituents safer. It’s prettt simple. If my young children can understand and do this I’m not sure why it’s so difficult for grown adults to do it. So glad you’re not my representative. #istandwiththatwomanfrommichigan
