State Representative Matt Hall

The Legislature created the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic to look into the state's handling of the crisis. In the video below, State Representative Matt Hall, Chairman of the bipartisan Joint Select Committee, provides an overview of what they hope to accomplish.

Video from the first two meetings can be found here: www.house.mi.gov/MHRPublic/videoarchive.aspx

As chair of the new Joint Select Committee on the COVID Pandemic, I will work to deliver answers to questions the people of Michigan have been asking regarding decision-making and preparedness. Legislative oversight is crucial, especially in the public health emergency we face today. Broad, unilateral action from the administration and certain state departments must be examined to provide people with a transparent, accountable state government. This is not the last crisis our great state will face. We can work to implement best practices for the future with the information we glean from this committee.

Michigan Legislature - House Bill 5749 (2020)

During these trying times, Michigan's first responders have worked tirelessly to provide assistance and relief to those in need. I believe we must do the same for them and recently introduced legislation that would provide a little bit of tax relief for our first responders. You can read the bill by clicking below.

Today I voted yes on HCR 20. This resolution will create a special oversight committee to review the state’s handling of COVID-19. The governor and state government were given unique emergency powers to handle the pandemic, and the new committee will help give people a voice in the process and hold the state accountable.

The UIA also asks that claimants avoid certifying Monday, April 20. They issued the following statement:

"In order to avoid slowdowns and keep the UIA’s online system functioning properly, the agency is directing claimants who need to certify next week to avoid doing so on Monday, April 20, and instead wait to certify throughout the week and during off-peak hours."

Representative Berman, HR 267 is selfish and inconsistent with the goals of a learned community. Please think beyond the next couple of months and realize that the key to a strong economy is an educated community. Stop cheating little kids. Thank you.
Please explain how you plan to fund schools if there is no help from the federal government?
Dear Representative Berman. Why are you against our own state receiving monies from the federal government to cover the cost of the pandemic. We were one of the hardest hit states in the nation. We were actually competing with the Federal Government to purchase PPE for our health care providers. The short fall in the budget may cause a significant shortfall in the educational budget. We are nothing as a nation with our a strong and well funded public education program. Please think twice what is best for all of the state of Michigan. From the Houghton to Monroe, we all need our children to have a fair and free education to make our state great.
Early Morning, May 1, 2020 An open letter to Governor Whitmer Looking at the latest news, I see that you have extended your executive order until May 28. Looking at the latest numbers for Michigan for Covid-19 from the Michigan Department of Health, I have a couple of questions for which I would like answers. There are 83 counties in the state and the bulk of the positive cases and deaths are in 6 counties. There are only 25 counties listed with positive cases and deaths. Basic arithmetic would indicate based on these numbers from the Michigan Department of Health, that there are 58 counties with no cases. Why are you choosing to close the entire state when the areas with the greatest challenges are easily identifiable as Detroit Metro Area, and a few of the other larger cities in the state? Why are you bankrupting and destroying the many wonderful small independent businesses across the state? Signed: Legal Michigan Resident, citizen of the United States of America, and a registered voter.
Stay strong decision in Lansing should not be made unilaterally!!! That is why we have three equal branches of government!!!
Really? this is what you have to tell us? Whitmer just extended the lock down till May 15 and this is the best you can do by giving into Whitmer again? Might as well have all Democrats in Lansing because you can't stop her.
I’m pretty upset. I had 3 questions ahead of mine and you looked over it. That’s not right. My question is about FMLA for the third time I called your office and no answer. What happens if you don’t get the 1250 hrs this year due to covid-19. I need it for care for my wife. This year I have it from the previous year. But this year I may not get those hrs so therefore I won’t qualify next year.
Great job on Fox 2. Great points, I'm sorry you got cut off I would have loved to hear more.
