AG - Nessel Issues Consumer Alert on Benefits, Drawbacks of Smartphone Tracking Features

“Our cell phones have become an essential communication tool. Because of that, I am committed to ensuring that Michigan consumers know the facts behind digital tracking and information-sharing. These technological advances may cause some to feel their privacy is being compromised, but those same advances are also providing us with unique opportunities like contact tracing to combat COVID-19. I want every Michigander to know how to ensure their smartphones are helping combat this pandemic without invading our privacy.” AG Nessel

AG - AG Nessel, EGLE File Lawsuit Against Arbor Hills Landfill for Violating Environmental Regulations

“The operator of the Arbor Hills Landfill has continually demonstrated a blatant disregard for the serious concerns raised by community members and the state. This site has been a nuisance for years and the potential threat to the health of nearby residents is significant. At this juncture, legal action is clearly a necessity and my office will support EGLE’s enforcement efforts so that our residents’ health and our natural resources are not subjected to the hazardous pollution created by this landfill.” AG Nessel

“I am deeply proud of the work our Clergy Abuse Investigative Team has done – and we are dedicated to continuing this incredibly important work. AG Nessel Charges 8th Man in Terrorism Plot

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has charged an eighth individual for his alleged participation in a plan of domestic terrorism that included storming the Michigan Capitol building and harming government officials.

Brian Higgins, 51, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, is charged with material support of an act of terrorism, a 20-year felony.

“While the political rhetoric in our nation may at times be divisive, I am encouraged by the united front our law enforcement community has displayed in response to this indescribable act of terror. These were very credible, and very serious threats to our elected officials and the public in general, and the swift actions taken by state and federal authorities this past week are nothing short of heroic.” AG Nessel

AG - AG Nessel Joins Coalition Opposing Texas Order to Drastically Limit Ballot Drop-off Sites

“There is absolutely no logical reason for the Governor of the second largest state in this country to limit absentee ballot drop-off sites to one per county. In the midst of a global pandemic and election year, voting must be safe and accessible for everyone. This move so close to the election is concerning, and will disproportionately affect communities of color in Texas. This appears to be an unconscionable act of voter suppression.” AG Nessel

AG - AG Nessel Supports 'Clean Slate' Legislation for Expungement Process

“Prior to being elected, I served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Wayne County as well as a criminal defense attorney. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the expungement process in our state was in serious need of reform. We not only needed to expand the types and numbers of offenses that could be eligible for expungements, but we also needed to make that process more accessible to our residents. This package of bills accomplishes both of these missions and that is why I consider it a step forward in Michigan’s effort to implement lasting criminal justice reforms.” AG Nessel
