Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Midwest transportation officials are planning for the future of automated vehicle technology at the 2020 CAV Summit. WisDOT and transportation leaders from the nine other Midwest states that make up the Mid America Association of Transportation Officers (MAASTO), are discussing the shared challenges of adopting connected and automated vehicle technology.

“The MAASTO region includes some of the country’s most important transportation corridors, so our cooperation and sharing on these issues will impact how the entire nation benefits from CAV,” WisDOT Secretary-designee Craig Thompson said.

The agenda for the two-day event on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 includes discussion on:

•Development of model legislation and regulations to ensure consistent regulation of CAV technology across state lines.
•Cooperating on research and development with academic and industry researchers.
•Recommending safety standards to ensure that CAV vehicles are safe for other motorists and pedestrians.
•Ensuring that the benefits of CAV technology are accessible to all.

New CDOT survey reveals risky roadway behaviors

Pretty sobering results from a recent Colorado Department of Transportation survey.

"In the seven days prior to the survey, 92% of respondents reported driving distracted. Of things people did most often, eating food and drinking beverages tops the list (32%) of distraction behaviors. Selecting entertainment on a handheld device (21%) and talking on a hands-free cell phone (18%) were the second and third most common distractions.

The higher the speed limit, the more people tended to speed. 20% of respondents said they never drive over the posted speed limit of 25-30 mph, whereas only 6% said the same for roads with a 65 mph speed limit."

More results, including about seat belt usage and impared driving: https://www.codot.gov/news/2020/october-2020/cdot-safety-survey-results

In the video, Governor Gretchen Whitmer reminds us that the #RebuildingMichigan program means there will be many roads under construction the next few years. The governor urges drivers to think about the people doing that work.

Later in the video, State Transportation Director Paul C. Ajegba implores drivers to slow down in work zones.

Why was 127 shut down for a while on Saturday?
Tuesday night crossing was more lit up than usual on the Mighty Mac.
Why are the trees being cut out of the median on I-75 in Otsego County?
696 what a cluster you got going on here. at least a 10 mile back up. no signage. still no idea what we mess we are dealing with. how about a sign for cripes sake
I see traffic lights being put up on 100th and 131, thank you!!! This should help the traffic big time once it reopens
MDOT work has stopped in creating the new sidewalk on South Kalamazoo/M227/Old 27 bridge in Marshall, just wondered. Thanks !
Who do I need to contact regarding needing a sign along I-94 installed? With the extensive work along 94 in Jackson, the Cooper street westbound ramp has been lengthened all the way across the bridge over the Grand River. Too many people have cut me off due to them thinking it begins a 3rd lane. Can a "Lane Ends" sign be placed at that location? Thank you
Michigan Department of Transportation are there any plans for work on the I75 northbound on-ramp exit 101 from grange hall rd. We’ve noticed a ramp closed sign on the ground by that ramp.
Thanks MDOT for the early warning of the construction on I96 and US23!!! Sat in traffic for 2 hours and was forced off at Kensington RD. A couple signs a few miles earlier would have been helpful. Happy we are putting tax payers money to great use with all the great minds planning traffic flow. Well thought out.
I think more than most states residents of Michigan like to go for "rides" for entertainment which is also a big part of our tourism industry. Like most people when I'm out riding around on roads I'm not familiar with I'd prefer to travel a paved road over a dirt road and it's always seemed to me that it would be beneficial when traveling down a two lane highway if the MDOT had some kind of code on signs to signify if the next upcoming road was blacktop or gravel.
What part of move over or slow down for construction vehicles (i e me in my MDOT Truck) don’t people understand ?
Roads won't last long with this going on
