The video from Thursday night’s city council meeting is now available. Final board member comments begin around 37:15.

One item discussed that was not on the agenda was a pending special use permit application for a short-term rental within Ward 4, specifically in an established HOA neighborhood.

I believe it’s important to balance personal property rights with the expectations of residents who intentionally chose to live within an HOA community. The city should be careful not to undermine those community standards and expectations.

Just as importantly, city leadership should listen to the residents who put us in these positions. Everyone who has reached out to me on this issue has expressed concerns about turning established neighborhoods into more transient areas.

One clarification from the meeting: I incorrectly stated that the city did not have the applicant’s last name. They did have it — and the city planning commission had it available in their agenda packets Wednesday night, but it wasn't presented publicly.

The City Council meets on Thursday, May 7th, at 7 p.m. with another packed agenda. The Mayor will read five proclamations, then the Council will consider:
- ordinance number 1147, amending Articles 2 & 4 of the Unified Development Ordinance Code to include FEMA required language for floodplain management and to allow four-story buildings in the B-3 zone.
- an amendment to the city's Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) to allow builders to construct homes up to 1,700 sf. The previous policy only allowed homes up to 1,600 sf.
- replacing the roof on the salt dome with unexpended funds from the deicing material fund.
- a resolution of support for a Transportation Alternatives Grant to construct a 10-foot trail from 4-H Road to Lansing High School.

These tools were approved for purchase a couple months ago and I was able to see them in action today. All battery operated - just amazing technology. Thank you Lansing Fire Department for the invite and demo.

2026 Fishing Derby Registration is almost here!

Get ready for a reel-y good time! Join us for the 2026 David Trinkle Jr. Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Bernard Park!

REGISTRATION: April 15 - 30, 2026

HEADS UP, FISHING FANS: Onsite registration will not be available on the day of the derby.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and MUST be received by Thursday, April 30th.

FISHING DERBY INFORMATION:
* Young anglers up to, and including, 15 years of age as of the day of the Derby, can join the fin-tastic fun.
* The registration fee is $5.00, which includes bait and a picnic lunch.
* All participants need to have a fishing pole and MUST be accompanied by an adult.
* Only ONE fishing pole per participant is allowed.
* Non-fishing attendees can purchase a lunch ticket for $3.00 on the day of the event.
* Remember to bring chairs or a blanket!

FISHING DERBY ITINERARY:
* 8:30–9:30 a.m. | CHECK-IN: Participants arrive and choose their fishing spot.
* 9:30 a.m. | FISHING BEGINS: Signaled by a horn.
* 11:00 a.m. | FISHING ENDS: Signaled by a horn, followed by lunch.
* AWARD PRESENTATION: Winners will be announced once the results are tallied.

RAFFLE PRIZES: Each registered participant is automatically entered into a raffle. Draws will occur after the award presentation, and winners must be present to claim their prize.
