APA and Research Assistance Available for Students!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Helen Robertson, the library associate for the Facundo Valdez School of Social Work. I will continue to provide the services I have always provided in the past in a virtual format. My schedule this semester is 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. I can provide you with one-on-one assistance by phone, email, or Zoom. You may contact me at [email protected] or call me at (505) 232-6000.

In addition to individual assistance, I give APA and basic research techniques group presentations via Zoom several times each semester. If there is no session that meets your schedule, please contact me and we can work out a time when I can either meet with you one-on-one or provide another session. There will be APA group sessions in October as well as all those posted for September. The schedule for October sessions will be out by the end of the week. I’m always glad to help with research needs, navigating databases, reviewing APA citations and formatting in your written assignments, and guiding you through InterLibrary Loan transactions.

I am willing to work with students from any of our campus centers and those from the main campus. I look forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely,

Helen S. Robertson

Virtual Study Groups Starting Tomorrow

Since we are all online this semester due to COVID-19, it’s not as easy to meet with other students to form study groups (students who meet with each other regularly to chat about assignments, study for exams, and provide mutual support).

We are offering a way for you to get in touch with others who might have an interest in forming a peer study group. A way to be intentional, supportive and get into the flow of your studies.

If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, program/year (e.g. MSW 1st year, or BSW 2nd year etc.) and the subject line: SW Study Group. Make sure to send your email from your NMHU student email by Friday September 25 at 5:00 pm.

I will send a group email on Monday September 28 to students who expressed an interest. Once you are connected with your classmates, you will work out the details amongst yourselves--how often you want to meet, the best days/times to meet and which classes you want to focus on. To avoid any health concerns, meetings will need to be online using Zoom. The school will not monitor or get involved in your study groups--this is just a way to help you connect virtually with others who have an interest in a peer study group for the semester.

Again, just send an email to [email protected] by Friday September 25 at 5:00 pm if you would like to meet with other students who are interested in forming a peer study group.

Hope everyone is off to a great start! We know this is a challenging semester for all, but together we can get through this semester.

Thank you,
