The heart of the city showed up for Southern Nevada's kids, and we are incredibly grateful.

A huge thank you is in order to the City of Las Vegas and everyone at City Hall for governing a month-long book drive in support of the children and families we serve. Beyond their daily work serving our community, they came together to provide opportunities for the next generation of leaders through the power of books. Thank you for showing up for our local kids and reminding us what true community partnership looks like.

A few words from the people who see the impact of our work firsthand. 💙📚

While school may be out for the summer, the need for books never takes a break. Before long, a new group of children will be counting on us to help build the home libraries that inspire a lifelong love of reading.

You can help us bridge the gap and continue creating success stories like these by supporting our 25th Anniversary Virtual Book Drive.

Our goal is to fund 2,500 home libraries by raising $62,500, and every donation helps place books directly into the hands of children who need them most.

Meet Maile Gove, a bilingual performer in Cirque du Soleil's Mystère and a volunteer mentor with Spread the Word Nevada’s Books & Buddies program. In this powerful story, Maile shares her journey mentoring a young student from Cuba who arrived in Las Vegas speaking very little English, and how weekly reading sessions helped build confidence, connection, and a love of learning.

Books & Buddies pairs caring volunteer mentors with struggling readers across the Las Vegas valley to provide encouragement, consistency, and one-on-one support. No teaching experience is required — just patience, positivity, and a passion for helping children succeed.

Mentoring takes place at five elementary schools throughout Southern Nevada.

Mentor Requirements:
