Kansas Green Party

Kansas Green Party The Kanas Green Party is a progressive independent political party in Kansas. Affiliated with GPUS.

Ten Key Values of the Green Party
Ratified at the Green Party Convention in 2000
1. GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY
Every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affect their lives and not be subject to the will of another. Therefore, we will work to increase public participation at every level of government and to ensure that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect

them. We will also work to create new types of political organizations which expand the process of participatory democracy by directly including citizens in the decision-making process.
2. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law.
3. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM
Human societies must operate with the understanding that we are part of nature, not separate from nature. We must maintain an ecological balance and live within the ecological and resource limits of our communities and our planet. We support a sustainable society which utilizes resources in such a way that future generations will benefit and not suffer from the practices of our generation. To this end we must practice agriculture which replenishes the soil; move to an energy efficient economy; and live in ways that respect the integrity of natural systems.
4. NON-VIOLENCE
It is essential that we develop effective alternatives to society's current patterns of violence. We will work to demilitarize, and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, without being naive about the intentions of other governments. We recognize the need for self-defense and the defense of others who are in helpless situations. We promote non-violent methods to oppose practices and policies with which we disagree, and will guide our actions toward lasting personal, community and global peace.
5. DECENTRALIZATION
Centralization of wealth and power contributes to social and economic injustice, environmental destruction, and militarization. Therefore, we support a restructuring of social, political and economic institutions away from a system which is controlled by and mostly benefits the powerful few, to a democratic, less bureaucratic system. Decision-making should, as much as possible, remain at the individual and local level, while assuring that civil rights are protected for all citizens.
6. COMMUNITY-BASED ECONOMICS AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE
We recognize it is essential to create a vibrant and sustainable economic system, one that can create jobs and provide a decent standard of living for all people while maintaining a healthy ecological balance. A successful economic system will offer meaningful work with dignity, while paying a "living wage" which reflects the real value of a person's work. Local communities must look to economic development that assures protection of the environment and workers' rights; broad citizen participation in planning; and enhancement of our "quality of life." We support independently owned and operated companies which are socially responsible, as well as co-operatives and public enterprises that distribute resources and control to more people through democratic participation.
7. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQUITY
We have inherited a social system based on male domination of politics and economics. We call for the replacement of the cultural ethics of domination and control with more cooperative ways of interacting that respect differences of opinion and gender. Human values such as equity between the sexes, interpersonal responsibility, and honesty must be developed with moral conscience. We should remember that the process that determines our decisions and actions is just as important as achieving the outcome we want.
8. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY
We believe it is important to value cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote the development of respectful relationships across these lines. We believe that the many diverse elements of society should be reflected in our organizations and decision-making bodies, and we support the leadership of people who have been traditionally closed out of leadership roles. We acknowledge and encourage respect for other life forms than our own and the preservation of biodiversity.
9. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY
We encourage individuals to act to improve their personal well-being and, at the same time, to enhance ecological balance and social harmony. We seek to join with people and organizations around the world to foster peace, economic justice, and the health of the planet.
10. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY
Our actions and policies should be motivated by long-term goals. We seek to protect valuable natural resources, safely disposing of or "unmaking" all waste we create, while developing a sustainable economics that does not depend on continual expansion for survival. We must counterbalance the drive for short-term profits by assuring that economic development, new technologies, and fiscal policies are responsible to future generations who will inherit the results of our actions.

The Kansas Green Party had a great time at WEALTH Day 2026 yesterday, talking with other organizations & attendees and sharing some of our table space wih Prairie Dog Alliance to raise awareness about the risky experimental nuclear microreactor project in Parsons that suddenly broke ground last year. Marjorie and her community in Southeast Kansas are doing an excellent job educating and informing the public about what Deep Fission plans for the site at Great Plains Industrial Park so please follow the PDA page to learn more and stay tuned as the coalition of watchdog organizations grows.

Thank you to the Climate + Energy Project (CEP) for hosting this event once again and giving us the chance to advocate for Green policies for WEALTH: Water, Energy, Air, Land, Transportation, Health! đź’š

This is extremely concerning. I hope everyone will please write your state and local Representatives about this. Folks need their driver’s license to vote. (Or Passport, which many don’t have, or some other form of picture ID; though most people use their driver’s license.)

Using Resistbot is an easy way to write and contact your state and local and federal representatives.

"How are trans people in Kansas supposed to get a new ID if their current was made invalid with no notice?” They don’t. The whole point is to make existing illegal so they can be harrassed, arrested, killed. It’s not a mistake, it’s not an overlooked detail, it’s the point.

Speak out at the Leavenworth City Commission meeting tomorrow and remind them that CoreCivic can't be trusted!

Unfortunately, CCA/CoreCivics practice is putting profits over people, the very guards they insist they are providing “good jobs” and more promises to. Profits could be invested into better conditions that do not leave the guards, prisoners and communities at risk.

Surely they could take one million of the multi millions of dollars in profits annually or reduce the CEO’s pay by a mer million a year to reinvest into staff or a specialist that could take a look at why their staffing problems persist year after year? Although that would require accountability and I could already tell you, it’s greed that prevents that change.

If no one holds them accountable, why would they bother? If they invested 16 million annually to make their facilities safer. They would still have 100 million dollars in profits annually, thanks to our US tax dollars. That seems like plenty of profit!

We can see the mistakes of the past but can we learn from them?

CoreCivic’s audit is pictured and the link below, from when they were previously operating the facility that they are attempting to reopen here in Leavenworth, KS. The inspector general reported that the insufficient oversight of the USMS allowed several problems at the facility.

Important information to consider. Learn more about the Deep Fission nuclear project at Prairie Dog Alliance's next public meeting this Tuesday Feb 24 5:30pm at the Parsons Public Library!

The safety and health of the Southeast Kansas community is very important to us. In the comments of one of my posts a person stated that there were possible natural gas reserves near Great Plains Industrial Park (GPIP) the expected site of the Deep Fission project. I researched his statement on Kansas University’s geology website. I am not an expert, as I have stated previously, but to me it looks like, yes, there are mapped natural gas reserves next to Great Plains Industrial Park. It is Sunday, but I have emailed and called both the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) with this information because I do not know what impact this currently has or will have on the Deep Fission project. Homeowners and residents that live adjacent to the GPIP should be aware that an extensive geological study needs to be done of the area under GPIP. It was not mapped previously, I think perhaps because it was federal land. I know the Kansas Corporation Commission has to approve the license for the large bore hole Deep Fission is planning to place at GPIP but I, personally, do not know what sort of core sample drilling or construction digging, is currently underway at the Deep Fission project site. The company, Day and Zimmerman, also routinely decommissions munitions in shallow trenches on GPIP. That means they take their stock of unused munitions and explode them in shallow trenches. So, the presence of natural gas reserves at an unknown depth in the area, the current and planned drilling at the project site by Deep Fission and the scheduled controlled explosions to decommission munitions at GPIP could be recipe for disaster. Prairie Dog Alliance is very concerned about the potential risks to the public and environment in the private residential land and businesses around Great Plains Industrial Park. We will continue to notify any and all departments and government officials related to this matter, regarding our concerns. We will also research specific aspects of this project and, of course, continue to educate the public with our findings, recommendations, and concerns. Thank you so much for liking, commenting and sharing this post. It is so important for the public to be informed. Have a blessed and beautiful day.

Our third-party colleagues at the United Kansas Party have requested people go pack the courtroom at the Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka this Tuesday Feb 24 to show their support for fusion voting in Kansas! The case will be heard at 10am in room 107, and will also be livestreamed for anyone unable to make it in person (link in comments!) but please go fill the seats if you can, so the judges can see everyone's support.

Letter from United Kansas below:

======================
"Hello Kansas Green Party.

Good things can be happening for third parties without the parties knowing it. Such is the case with Fusion Voting. What is Fusion Voting? I’m glad you asked.

Fusion Voting is a way for parties to nominate a candidate that have already been nominated by another party. For example, If David is running for the Democratic party, the Greens could decide that the Greens want to nominate David also. After the Greens vote on this, the Greens can approach David and ask David if he wants to be the candidate for the Greens also. If David says yes, then David will appear twice on the ballot. Once with Democrat behind his name, and again with Green behind his name. This cross nomination can give the power of a minor party to sway an election.

The minor party has the benefit of seeing how many votes for the candidate came from the minor party. This also can help the minor party reach the voting quota that is required to maintain ballot access {the ability to run candidates}.

Last election the United Kansas party tried to use Fusion Voting to cross nominate candidates. The secretary of state said no. So, the United Kansas party is suing to get Fusion Voting back. If United Kansas is successful, this will be the best thing ever for all minor parties.

We want your help to fill the seats in the court room at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 24, Room # 107, 301 S 10th ave, Topeka, Ks. We want the judges to know that we care. That’s it. Just show up and sit. The room holds about 30 people. We need about 10 more people.

This will not be a hearing with a final say about the verdict. It is an appellate court to decide how the case will proceed to the state supreme court. Nothing exciting, but important.

This is a very important case for all of us. Citizens should have the right to be represented through the party of their choice. This is a freedom that we want back.
