Thank you Lawrence! We came up about 82 votes short, but I still see this campaign as a win. We brought people together, started important conversations, and made sure the focus stayed on our kids, their education, and the future of our schools. If the school administration takes a closer look at some of the issues I talked about during my campaign, that alone would make it all worth it.

I’m truly grateful to everyone who supported me, those who volunteered, voted, spread the word, or simply encouraged me along the way. This experience has taught me so much and deepened my connection to this community. I will continue working in the background with the ELPAC team, advocating for our parents and students every chance I get. And if I decide to run again, I will be doing it with a stronger foundation and with even more experience and knowledge to serve our families.

Let’s keep working together for our kids and for Lawrence!

Gracias Lawrence! Nos quedamos cortos por la unos 82 votos, pero sigo viendo esta campaña como una victoria. Logramos unir personas, iniciar conversaciones importantes y mantener el enfoque en nuestros niños, su educación y el futuro de nuestras escuelas. Si la administración escolar decide mirar más de cerca algunos de los temas que mencioné durante mi campaña, eso por sí solo valdría la pena.

Estoy verdaderamente agradecido con todos los que me apoyaron, los que ayudaron, votaron, compartieron mi mensaje o simplemente me dieron ánimo en el camino. Esta experiencia me enseñó mucho y fortaleció mi conexión con esta comunidad. Seguiré trabajando junto al equipo de ELPAC, abogando por nuestros padres y estudiantes en cada oportunidad que tenga. Y si decido postularme nuevamente, lo haré con una base más sólida y con aún más experiencia y conocimiento para servir a nuestras familias.

Today my youngest son and biggest supporter had the chance to visit and learn about each district. He also met several of the candidates who were there and some of their supporters.

A heartfelt thank you to all the candidates and supporters who took a picture with him. I hope he always remembers this wonderful experience and the excitement of being part of our local democracy.

The future cannot be built on sand, but on solid rock. Lawrence needs a voice that listens to parents, students, and school employees with transparency and sincerity. An objective and independent voice that will not bend the knee to special interest groups or political favors.

La palabra equidad se usa mucho en el ámbito educativo, pero con demasiada frecuencia es vaga y se utiliza más como una palabra de moda que como un verdadero plan de cambio.

En Lawrence y en otros distritos escuchamos constantemente hablar de la “equidad en la educación” a través de nuevas iniciativas, comités o programas que suenan impresionantes pero no logran una diferencia real en el aula. La verdad es que la equidad no se logra con discursos ni con burocracia; se logra cuando cada niño, sin importar su origen o idioma, aprende a leer, escribir y pensar de forma crítica.

Hoy en Lawrence, solo alrededor del 20 % de los estudiantes leen al nivel de su grado. Eso significa que casi el 80 % está teniendo dificultades con una de las habilidades más básicas y esenciales… 👉🏽 la lectura. Cuando una ciudad entera enfrenta una brecha tan grande, ningún programa de moda ni ideología puede resolverla.

La verdadera justicia educativa comienza asegurando que cada estudiante domine lo fundamental… lectura, escritura, matemáticas y resolución de problemas. Estos son los cimientos que permiten a nuestra juventud romper ciclos de pobreza, participar plenamente en la sociedad y construir su propio futuro.

En Lawrence, la equidad no debería tratarse de apariencias ni de discursos políticos. Debería tratarse de resultados reales, y esos resultados comienzan elevando las tasas de alfabetización, un estudiante a la vez.

The word equity is thrown around a lot in education, but too often it is vague and used more as a buzzword than a real plan for change.

In Lawrence and other districts, we constantly hear about “equity in education” through new initiatives, committees, or programs that sound impressive but fail to make a real difference in the classroom. The truth is, equity is not achieved through speeches or bureaucracy; it is achieved when every child, no matter their background or language, learns to read, write, and think critically.

Today in Lawrence, only about 20% of students are reading at grade level. That means nearly 80% are struggling with one of the most basic and essential skills… 👉🏽 reading. When an entire city faces such a gap, no trendy program or ideology can fix it.

True educational justice begins by ensuring every student masters the fundamentals… reading, writing, math, and problem-solving. These are the foundations that allow our youth to break cycles of poverty, participate fully in society, and build their own future.

In Lawrence, equity should not be about appearances or political talking points. It should be about real results, and those results begin by raising literacy rates, one student at a time.

If we don’t tackle literacy rates aggressively now, we risk an exponential decline fueled by the misuse of AI. As AI becomes more common in daily life, critical thinking weakens. This will only widen the poverty gap and deepen inequities in our most vulnerable communities.

La economía está cambiando a un ritmo acelerado y con cada cambio llega una nueva oportunidad. Nuestra responsabilidad es asegurarnos de que nuestras escuelas no solo se mantengan al día sino que marquen el camino.

Los estudiantes deben contar con más que conocimiento académico. Necesitan las habilidades que definen a los líderes del mañana: pensamiento crítico, creatividad, comunicación y un carácter sólido.

Si preparamos a nuestra juventud con estas herramientas hoy, no solo enfrentarán el futuro con confianza, también lo transformarán.
