Hello,
Please allow me to introduce myself and give you my background. I grew up in Louisville Ky near Churchill Downs with my Single Mom and Grandparents. My Grandparents retired from American Standard, my mom worked at Brown and Williams until they relocated to Georgia. After that, she went back to school and graduated Valedictorian of her Medical assistant class. My mom did find MR Right after
I had grown up and moved out. My step dad, is a retired army veteran and retired from Ford. I am the product of a strong union family. I graduated from Central High School in 1987 and married my high school sweetheart at nineteen. I attended Jefferson State Vocational school and earned my LPN in 1993. My first job was working for the Veterans Hospital in Louisville on the hospice unit. (5B)
I have five incredible children. Three of them graduated from public schools. My youngest, twins are currently enrolled at Anderson County High school. I also have 3 beautiful grandchildren, they also attend public schools in Bardstown and Anderson County. After I divorced, I decided to return to college to pursue my Associates in Nursing degree. After graduation, I found that every place I applied, required new nurses to start on second or third shift. By this time I was a single mom again, with three year old twins living in Eastview KY. Since those schedules were not possible for a single mom in a rural area without any childcare options, I started raising chickens and selling AVON to make my mortgage and other ends meet. In 2016, I discovered CBD and learned how much it helps people. It also helped my autistic son too. I founded Cannabis Phrog in 2016 with my money that I earned from farming and AVON. Now I have two locations, several well paid employees and we gross over a million dollars is sales annually. With all of that going on, politics was never an ambition for me. I've always paid attention to politics and never missed an opportunity to vote, but I never wanted to run for anything, until now. When KY enacted strict abortion bans, and stated they wanted to ban contraceptives as well, I was alarmed to say the least. My daughters have less freedoms than I had. My son is effected as well. My daughter in law would be a high risk pregnancy, and that has made them hesitate adding to their family. There is a real possibility that a hospital could let her die, rather than risk being arrested for treating her if her pregnancy failed. I know there must be hundreds more families in the same situation. I have family members who are not safe, because they do not identify as straight. KY Republicans have introduced over two dozen anti gay bills in the past two years. Public schools are under attack too. Kentucky Republicans have cut funding for education every year since 2015. Now our schools are failing and they are using that as an excuse to send public money to private schools. School choice will raise our taxes, gut our public schools and bankrupt the state. I want to fully invest in our public schools. Our public schools should be the best education in the state. I say, enough is enough! I am running to restore women's rights, get our public schools fully funded, and raise school staff and bus driver's pay, protect our LGBTQIA+ community, protect our unions and restore workers rights, address our low wages, higher taxes, and our homelessness crisis. I have also signed a pledge to support term limits. I support responsible gun ownership. By that I mean, if your gun harms another human being that is not presenting a lethal threat to you or your family, you will be held responsible for that. If your child brings a gun to school and shoots their classmates and school staff, they will be punished appropriately for their age, and so will you. I support the second amendment and your right to bear arms, I also support common sense gun safety laws. I do back the blue, but police need more resources such a mental health professionals on staff for our officers as well as helping them respond to crisis calls when a cop is not the appropriate response. We need stronger vetting and training for our officers before they join the force. And there should be a third party to investigate and hold officers who abuse their power accountable when they cross the line or break the laws they are supposed to uphold. All no knock warrants should be banned. Our police need to regain the people's trust. My opponent and I, are miles apart on on almost every issue. I'm sure you will not agree with me on every issue. Hopefully there is more good than bad. And the truth is, if every single Democrat wins their race this election cycle, the republicans will still hold a two thirds majority and will be able to override Governor vetoes. But it will be slim. My hope is to achieve some balance and compromise. As a nurse and business woman, I have become great at seeking compromise and making deals with people that do not agree with me. Hopefully this will inspire you to give me a chance. Please vote for me this November 5th. Thank you,
Rhonda Davis
