A proclamation signed by LAWRENCE COUNTY EXECUTIVE DAVID MORGAN asks local residents to become more aware of the risks and warning signs of su***de in recognition of SU***DE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH. Shown with him are Tennessee Su***de Prevention Network (TSPN) South Central Regional Director Mary Anne Christian, and Jasper, a friend that travels with her to provide support and comfort to those she serves.

The TENNESSEE SU***DE PREVENTION NETWORK is a grassroots collaboration of Tennesseans and organizations working to eliminate the stigma of su***de, educate the community about the warning signs of su***de, and ultimately reduce the rate of su***de in our state. There are more than 1,100 lives lost in Tennessee each year and an estimated 25 attempted su***des for each su***de death. It is the second leading cause for people age 10-14 and 25-34; and the third leading cause of death for those age 15-24.

Public awareness of this tragic problem is the key to preventing further suffering and loss of life; and the risk for human self-destruction can be reduced through awareness, education, and treatment as the highest risk for su***de is among the survivors of those who died by su***de or those who have attempted su***de.

TSPN has a great variety of resources available on its website, https://tspn.org/.

ATTENTION PROPERTY OWNERS!

The property evaluation report you received in the mail recently is higher because property values have gone up significantly in Lawrence County.

However, that DOES NOT MEAN that you will necessarily pay more property tax. Please read this letter of explanation by Property Assessor Brady Hutton.

A few weeks ago Chris Jackson, Ricky Skillington, and Alanna Harris passed a resolution on the county commission that would give each county volunteer fire department an additional $10,000 contribution to help them offset rising costs. This week County Executive T.R. Williams, Commissioner Alanna Harris, and Commissioner Tammy Wisdom presented the West End Fire Dept with their $10,000 check!
