Seventy-five years ago today, on March 17, 1948, segregation in the New Jersey National Guard ended.
This historical change would serve as a catalyst for other states to follow suit in their National Guard units and prefaced President Harry S. Truman’s Executive Order 9981, which effectively terminated segregation of the U.S. Armed Forces.
