Friday in Mrs. Howards' class: students were timed doing a variety of medical skills, like CPR, checking vital signs, stopping bleeding, ace wraps, and splints. It was so fun that Mr. Seeley's class had to join in, too!

Here's a report from Mrs. Rooney!

"Aviation 1 students have been building their balloons all week, and we got to launch today! We’ve been learning about early flight as well as the properties of air, and this project explores both. All the balloons launched great! Side note: the one that didn’t hit the ceiling was, in fact, NOT a failure or poor design. The boys wanted to see if a hole on top made a difference in lift. Tune in next time…I’m sure they’ll be determined to rig up a flap system soon. "

Can't wait to see what these aviators get into next. We have high expectations!

Mr. Frampton and the Intro to Health Careers class are learning how to react in trauma-like responses. Some of the techniques they practiced (on test dummies in very fun pajamas) are used everyday by healthcare professionals, like Emergency Responders.

Mrs. Howard's medical students have been busy this week! Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester will be Skills Days in her class, where students will get hands-on practice with the skills she teaches them in class. Today, students learned and practiced CPR! What will it be next week? Tune in to find out.

Here's a report from down the hall in Mr. Billings' classroom:

"In Game Design II class, students are actively bringing their original game projects to life. Through weekly peer-review sessions, groups present their progress, demonstrate new features, and playtest one another's builds. Even in these early stages of development, the students have built a strong, supportive community—frequently praising each other's creativity and offering constructive encouragement as their games take shape."

Love to see students working together to create something awesome. Thanks for the update, Mr. Billings!

Today we celebrated our teachers who had birthdays in August and September, and the retirement of our Maureen DuRant.

Maureen was part of the original crew when the LRC opened and built our library from nothing - empty shelves, no books, no furniture. Her hard work has turned it into the heart of our school. We will try to keep it loud and wild in her honor.

Students in Mr. Wier's Fashion Design II Class have spent the first few weeks of this school year learning traditional pattern drafting.

They practiced taking measurements on clients (aka, their classmates), then took those measurements and drafted them out on paper to create their patterns!

Although not all students in Fashion II are pictured, each student now has a pattern that they will be able to alter to create any kind of bodice/top, and it will (almost) always fit them perfectly.

From the instructor:
Hello! While we haven't met (yet!), I am extremely grateful for the community support of the LRC, and of the Fashion Design program here. I'm not exaggerating when I say, this is my dream job, and I am so excited to share my passion for fashion (haha) construction and design with these students. They have been exceptionally wonderful, their flexibility with instruction and willingness to try new things has been such a delight to experience as an educator.
If you are interested in learning more about fashion construction and design, I would absolutely LOVE to have you in my courses next year.
-Mr. Wier

From the Geeky Gulch:

Some days we are very serious engineers.

Some days, we use our bottle-car axle tubes for an exploration in…physics?

Calling Mr. Hale.

Wherever our road takes us, we’re learning, we’re engaged, and (most importantly) we’re happy to be at school.
