K'nads & T'clouts for president

K'nads & T'clouts for president As part of the 2012 campaign Keegan and Tyler are all about representation of the student body and i As with any institution, our school has flaws.

However these flaws need not be so gaping if you elect Keegan and Tyler for your 2012 class presidents. We understand the feeling of ruling and decisions being made without representation of the general population. We intend to take measures such as having students in the school board to solve this. We also understand the frustrations of the competency based grading system at LHS, and we intend to

solve these problems as well. As a team we are up to any challenge thrown at us and have the means to solve these problems.

Our five plans for LHS
1) We think that the competencies that we have to have our classes by are written way too complicated for anyone to understand. We think that the competencies need to be written more clearly and easier to understand. This is a suggestion from the students to the teachers because as students we don’t believe that this is helping us when we can’t understand the competency. To get this process going we would write a letter to each dept. head and ask to meet with them to talk about the changes we feel need to be made. Then we would have them write up some ideas of simpler ways to say the competencies. If we feel that these ways are easier and more useful we would then ask for them to be used.

2) We think that our classes should relate more to the competencies. We believe that no one actually knows what the competencies are in their classes, and if no one knows them then what is the point of having the competencies? We think that everyday or after everything new you learn that the teacher should have to give a competency quiz to relate the materials to the competencies we are required to have. We need to talk to the the head of every department of studies to change these competencies (as our plan before) but then ask them how they feel they can relate them better to the classes. We would help them come up with some ideas and hopefully come up with something that will work.

3) Because of all the cameras on the bus now, we do not see any reason why we have to sit in assigned seats. Since we are being so closely monitored they will be able to see exactly who is misbehaving. Wanda is the person in charge of the Hartford bus assigned seating so we will have to speak with her and explain that because we have cameras we don’t need assigned seats anymore because they can see everything we are doing. We would then ask for one week to prove to her we can behave correctly, and, after the one week she will hopefully have made a decision as to whether or not we can have free seating.

4)Reduced price for parking passes: If you make honor roll 4 of the 8 quarters between your freshman and JR year, the price for your parking pass will be 50% off the price of the passes that year. If you make honor roll 2 of the 4 quarters your JR year, you will receive a 50% discount on the price for the parking passes your senior year. This will provide kids incentive to work in school in order to save money on parking, which is a commodity. We need to talk to administrators about this plan and if they agree we will need to promote it to the whole school.

5)2 Ply toilet paper in the school bathrooms: because frankly the thin stuff sucks. We should at least have two ply instead of tissue paper. When you use two ply you use less paper because you dont need to fold it as much which uses less paper. The average yearly cost will be about the same at about $220 and the students will be much more confertable.
