Russell County Health Coalition

Russell County Health Coalition Creating lasting solutions that will inspire and empower our community to live healthier and longer lives.

The Russell County Health Coalition was formed in 2014 as an extension of two diabetes support groups active in Russell County at that time. The Coalition was formally incorporated as a non-profit and approved for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in 2017. The mission of the Coalition is “to implement sustainable programs that improve access and opportunities for better overall health of all generations

of Southwest Virginians.” The Coalition serves Russell County, Virginia, including the Towns of Lebanon, Honaker, and Cleveland and the unincorporated community of Castlewood, but nearly all Coalition directors and members work professionally on a multi-county or regional basis in Southwest Virginia. The Coalition meets monthly, is governed by an elected Board of Directors with four officers, and has multiple committees/work groups established for each of its primary programs. 🩵Calling all moms, dads, grandparents, and anyone who cares about families in southwest Virginia!🩵

Great news! The deadline for our MCH Systems Assessment has been extended through the end of April! You still have time to make your voice heard. 📣

Your input helps decide how funding and resources for maternal and child health get directed to OUR area. Things like prenatal care, postpartum support, and health services for our little ones. A few minutes of your time can make a real difference for families right here at home. Your input WILL be used!

If you live or work in Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Norton, Russell, Scott, Tazewell, or Wise and you're 16+, we want to hear from you!

🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE READ & SHARE 🚨

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware of a recent scam that resulted in a local resident losing $30,000.

On March 16, 2026, the victim received a notification claiming her phone had been compromised and that someone was attempting to make a purchase on her account. During the call, the scammer convinced her he was transferring her to her bank and then falsely claimed her identity had been stolen.

The suspect, identifying himself as “Roy Williams” with the Federal Trade Commission, instructed the victim to withdraw a large amount of cash and send it through UPS. The victim was directed to package the money and ship it overnight to an address in California.

After sending the money, the suspect continued to request additional funds. At that point, the victim realized it was a scam and stopped communication.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
• No legitimate agency will ask you to withdraw cash and mail it.
• Government agencies will NOT call and request money or personal information this way.
• Never send cash through the mail.
• Always verify who you are speaking with before taking any action.

If you receive a suspicious call or message, do not engage. Contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.

Please share this information to help protect others in our community.

An unexpected Amazon package containing a QR code is a "brushing" scam designed to steal personal or financial data. Scammers send unsolicited items—often cheap products—and include a note to scan a code to find the sender or claim a prize. Do not scan the code, as it can download malware or lead to phishing sites.

What to Do If You Receive a Package:

Do Not Scan: Avoid scanning any QR code, even if it claims to be from Amazon, a legitimate seller, or a surprise gift.

Do Not Enter Information: Never enter your Amazon credentials, bank details, or personal information on sites linked to the QR code.

Report the Item: Contact Amazon customer service directly through their app or website to report the unsolicited package.

Dispose/Keep Safely: You are not required to return unsolicited "brushing" packages.

Monitor Accounts: Watch your bank and credit card accounts for unauthorized transactions.
