Officer Brickley visited the Loudoun County Animal Shelter yesterday afternoon where she got to spend some quality time with a few of their adoptable animals!

Officer Brickley had a wonderful visit, first getting to spend time with Harry, a 12 week old Labrador Retriever and Cane Corso puppy. She then stopped by Meowtown where she met with Tip, a 7 year old male domestic shorthair cat, Jasmin, a 9 year old female domestic shorthair cat, and Hershey Kiss, a 5 month old domestic shorthair cat. She then headed outside where she got to meet two adult pigs! After, she hung out with Rosie and Penny, who are 8 month old rabbits. Officer Brickley rounded out her visit with some playtime with Lisa, a 1 year old female pit bull terrier mix.

Thank you to Loudoun County Animal Services for inviting us to stop by and meet some adorable pets that are available for adoption! Stop by the Animal Shelter or visit them at: https://www.loudoun.gov/534/Available-Pets.

FRAUD FRIDAY:

The Loudoun Circuit Court Clerk’s Office has received multiple calls from Leesburg and Loudoun County residents this week in regards to SCAM calls. The residents reported that an unknown caller advised them that there is pending litigation in the Loudoun Circuit Court against them, however it has been determined that this is false.

At least one of the calls involved an automated message from a subject identifying himself as Dale Martin, a process server. The message further stated that the process server had come to the resident’s home, and that the resident had a pending case in Circuit Court. The message advised that if the resident does not respond, he gives up all rights to the case.

The Leesburg Police Department, Loudoun County Sherriff’s Office, and Loudoun Circuit Court Clerk’s Office have confirmed that these calls are related to fraudulent activity, and that no such cases litigation exists. Anyone who receives this call should report the fraudulent activity to their local law enforcement.

LCPS, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES HOLD JOINT TRAINING

More than 250 principals, assistant principals, school resource officers, school security officers, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Central Support personnel and members of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and Leesburg Police Department attended a joint training on school safety and security – the first of its kind – Tuesday at Riverside High School.

“Everyone has a collective responsibility for protecting our students and staff. While we all know safety and security is everyone’s job, we cannot accomplish that mission without everyone in this room operating as a team,” said LCPS Director of Safety and Security John Clark in opening the training. “Your being here today shows the commitment to that collaboration.”

Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Kevin Lewis urged those in attendance to share experiences and best practices with an eye toward the equitable treatment of all students and staff. “It’s important that we listen to other perspectives. The purpose of this training is to find a way to come together and look at things in a more unified way so that we’re treating everyone fairly.”

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said, “We really need your help and participation to make sure that this continues to be a wonderful team effort. We work very well together and I’m proud of the relationship we have with Loudoun County Public Schools.”

Leesburg Police Chief Greg Brown said, “We all have the same mission. That’s to keep our students, faculty and staff safe. Giving them a conducive learning environment where they don’t have to worry. That is the mission we all share.”

Brown noted he was one of the first five school resource officers (SROs) in Loudoun County in 1998, eventually becoming the captain of the SRO program. “I strongly believe in this program. I believe in partnerships that the SROs have. To see what it was and what it has become is amazing to me.”

Among the presenters at the training were:
LCPS Director of Diagnostic and Prevention Services John Lody, who outlined the best practices surrounding threat assessments.
Judy Handley of the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter and Detective Sgt. Wayne Promisel of the Sheriff’s Office shared domestic violence and sexual assault resources.
LCPS Director of Equity Lottie Spurlock and Director of Special Education Patricia Nelson spoke about security through the lens of their specialty.
The training closed with panel discussions on lessons learned from past experiences at LCPS schools.
