Congratulations!

Each year in support of America Recycles Day, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments sponsors a regional contest where two participants are selected to receive an award for their commitment to recycle. For 2019, kindergarten through high school-age students were eligible to win a $300 gift certificate and a $500 grant for their school environmental club/program/project. This week, Loudoun County Recycling Specialist Tony Hayes presented the 2019 America Recycles Day Award to Broad Run High School junior Rudy Mosqueira. Mosqueira, shown here with Hayes and Broad Run Principal David Spage, will use his $500 grant to assist the school's recycling activities.

Do you have expired or unused medications at home? You can take them to one of five sites in #Loudoun County on the next Drug Take Back Day, Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 28, 2018
https://bit.ly/2F3mKro

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Middleburg Police Department in the “Take-Back” initiative that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Loudoun County residents can discard potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at four sites in the county:

Eastern Loudoun Sheriff’s Station
46620 East Frederick Drive, Sterling, VA 20164

Dulles South Public Safety Center
25216 Loudoun County Parkway, South Riding, VA 20152

Lansdowne Public Safety Center
19845 Sandridge Way, Lansdowne, VA 20176

Lovettsville Town Hall
6 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lovettsville, VA 20180

Middleburg Town Hall
10 W. Marshall Street, Middleburg, VA 20117

Since the inception of the DEA take-back program in 2010, nearly 10,000 pounds of unwanted and unused prescription medications have been collected in Loudoun County.

“Recent research has shown that over 75 percent of Americans using heroin were introduced to opioids through prescription medication. It is imperative we remove any unused and unwanted medications from our homes, as most opioid users often get access to prescription medications from friends and relatives,” said Sheriff Michael Chapman.

In addition to the Take Back event, drug collection units are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at four of our stations. The drug collection units are located at the:

Dulles South Public Safety Center
25216 Loudoun County Parkway, Chantilly, VA 20152
571-258-3200

Eastern Loudoun Station
46620 East Frederick Drive, Sterling, VA 20164
571-258-3356

University Station
45299 Research Place, Suite #100, Ashburn, VA 20147
571-258-3000

Western Loudoun Sheriff Station
47 W. Loudoun Street, Round Hill, VA 20141
571-258-3750

LCSO asks residents to please share these locations and dates to help promote safe disposal of unwanted and unused medication. All too often prescriptions are flushed down the toilet or thrown away – both potential safety and health hazards.
