Chances are increasing for severe storms later this afternoon & evening across the northern South Plains and far southern TX Panhandle. Stay alert for possible severe thunderstorm watches & warnings later today.

A wildfire burning in Ruidoso, New Mexico may bring in a light plume of smoke as it tracks east-northeast into the region. Time of arrival to the state line will be around 9:30 PM, where it will continue to track and reach the Lubbock area around or just before midnight.

Thunderstorms have begun developing across the far southwestern Texas Panhandle area and will continue to move east through the evening. Hazards include small hail, gusty winds and heavy rains. Storms are slow moving and could cause isolated flooding.

There is an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight across parts of west into central Texas. Hail up to baseball size, 60-75 mph wind gusts, and a couple tornadoes are all possible.
