⚡ Skywarn Basics: Watch vs. Warning—Do You Know the Difference? ⚡
Midweek weather checks are crucial when summer storms develop fast. Remembering the distinction between a WATCH and a WARNING can save vital minutes when severe weather moves in:

Severe Thunderstorm WATCH: Be Prepared. Atmospheric conditions are favorable for severe weather (damaging winds, hail) to develop in or near your area. Check your equipment, ensure your NOAA radio is on, and review your shelter plan.

Severe Thunderstorm WARNING: Take Action! Severe weather has been reported or indicated by radar. Danger is imminent to life and property. Move indoors to an interior room away from windows immediately!

⚡ Skywarn Spotter Education: What is a Microburst? ⚡
During peak summer, pulse thunderstorms can produce localized, violent downdrafts known as microbursts. Here is what every weather spotter and resident should know:

The Science: As mid-level dry air mixes into a thunderstorm, heavy rain and hail rapidly evaporate, cooling the air. Cold air is denser than warm air, causing it to plunge toward the ground like an invisible anvil.

The Impact: When that air strikes the ground, it rushes outward in all directions, producing straight-line winds exceeding 80–100+ mph—capable of snapping power poles and tearing off roofs.

Detection Warning: Microbursts often occur in less than 2.5 miles and evolve within minutes, sometimes happening between radar sweeps. If you see a dark "rain foot" bulging outwards beneath a thunderstorm cloud base, seek indoor shelter immediately!
Stay safe, stay educated, and keep your eyes on the skies! ⛈️📱
