Army Reserve Family Programs Fort Family Outreach and Support Center
September is National Preparedness Month (NPM) and as a Solider and/or
Family member of the Army Reserve we encourage you to participate in the
Ready.gov campaign. Over the next four weeks we will share tips that we
hope you will find useful to establishing your Family plan.
National Preparedness Month
This year's theme is "Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare." Take
action by participating in America's PrepareAthon! on or around September
30. Be on the lookout for a weekly email from Fort Family focusing on the
following themes: Week 1 - How to. Reconnect with Family After a Disaster. Week 2 - Know How To plan for specific needs before a Disaster. Week 3 - How to. Build an Emergency Kit. Week 4 & 5 - How to. Practice for an emergency.

This week's focus is "How to Reconnect with Family After a Disaster. Before
an emergency happens, have a family discussion to determine who would be
your out-of-state point of contact, and where you would meet away from your
home - both in the neighborhood and within your town. It is important to
have planned ahead of time how you will reconnect with family members after
a disaster. For your convenience we are providing two links:
1. The Children's Family Communication Plan. This plan is specially
designed for kids to complete.
2. The Family Communication Plan. This plan is designed for adults.
Remember, after a disaster text, don't talk. Unless you are in danger, send
a text. Texts may have an easier time getting through than phone calls, and
you don't want to tie up phone lines needed by emergency workers
