From Chief and Safety 5:
We are completely dumbfounded and at a loss for words as we struggle with the passing of one of our Brothers, Christopher McClellan. Chris has been a member with our department, off and on, for the past 7 years. Chris was an absolute joy to be around and to work with. An outstanding fire fighter, colleague, inspiration, and friend who was called home way too soon. Chris had ran and held officer positions within, not only our department, but with Junction Fire Co. as well. At this time, we ask that you keep us, our other brothers and sister at neighboring departments, and his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as we come to terms with his untimely passing.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at Heller-Hoenstine on Logan St. from 6pm-8pm. Services will be Thursday at 11pm.
God speed Brother, you will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved you.
Please remember that every single fire department in this county is 100% volunteer. The demands placed on every single person of these organizations is often overlooked by many. They are required to train a tremendous amount of hours just to be certified to fight fires, they risking their lives, for 0 pay. Add in attending meetings and participating in fund raising activities just to keep your volunteer organization afloat. We miss family meals, family functions, holidays, etc, again for $0.00.
I speak on behalf of Decatur only when I say this: I do not expect any of my volunteers to commit every day, evening, or weekend to filling pools. We have a very limited number of persons trying to conduct this fund raiser. Iâm sorry that I donât check the answering machine at the station but every couple days so it may take 2-3 days for me to call you back. Then I take time to reach out to others to see who is available to haul water. We all have families, lives, and jobs that I fully expect myself, and them to put first. If this upsets you because you canât get water when you want, Iâm sorry. I will NOT apologize for myself, or the other members choosing to spend time with their families or going to work over hauling pool water.

- note - almost every person within our organization holds more than one office/officer position which only enhances the demand placed on us. I look not for sympathy, understanding, or a thanks for what I do. I just want everyone to understand I, and we as a department, are doing the best we can with the limited number of active volunteers that we have.
The officers and members would like to send our sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences to our brothers and sister at Junction Fire Company. We are but a phone call away should you need anything.
A very good read.
Mifflin Countyâs worst residential fire in roughly eight years struck four Lewistown homes early Tuesday morning. The fire took the life of one person and displaced nine others, including some children. It also left one of the four buildings in such poor condition, it was immediately razed. Withou...
The officers and members would like to extend our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the Milroy Hose Company #1 as we learn of the passing of one of their members. Brian âSnookieâ Snook was a very active and dedicated member who will be irreplaceable.
We ask that everyone keep Brianâs wife, son, daughter, grandchildren, and family in your prayers .
God speed brother, rest easy, weâll take it from here.
Pool filling season is almost upon us.
Fuel prices have risen drastically.
The officers have decided that we will continue to offer pool water but the rates will vary and can potentially change from day to day, based on fuel prices.
Customs should expect to pay significantly more than in previous years.
We apologize in advance for the increased prices, but as a volunteer organization, we have to ensure we cover all costs associated with providing this service.
Thank you all for your continued support and understanding.
If you would like to arrange for water, please call the station at 717-543-5171 and leave a message.
Sincerely,
Decatur Fire Co. #1

The officers and members would like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of one of our own, Life Member Ray Diven. Ray has been with Decatur Fire Co. #1 for many many years, holding many titles during his time at Decatur. Though not a blood relative, he was our âUncle Rayâand we loved him dearly. Ray was a master when it came to his mechanical skills, be it with the trucks or any of the tools but especially with the chainsaws. If it wouldnât run, you could bet money that Uncle Ray would get it going again and it would run better than it ever had before. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest easy Uncle Ray, we got it from here đ

I would like to send a huge shout out to the lady that lives on Mailpouch Rd, just off 522, for bringing bottled water to the crew that was shutting the roadway down yesterday, July 6. Not only did she do that, but she offered her house to use and told us just to walk down if we needed more water or anything else. Your generosity was extremely appreciated. I wish I would have gotten your name, for that I apologize. Again, thank you, from the bottom of my heart!!
~Wendy~
