The Mifflin County Coroner's Office is currently accepting resumes for the position of part time Deputy Coroner. The qualifications for the job are posted below.
SUMMARY: Responds to requests for death investigations from law Enforcement, 911 center, medical personnel, funeral directors and general public. Provides education when requested. Maintains a positive working environment under stressful situations..
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following with other duties assigned as needed:
1. Responds to requests for death investigations.
2. Interviewing persons with potential knowledge concerning circumstances surrounding death investigation.
3. Completes work assignments for The Coroner and office staff.
4. Assists Coroner and office staff with difficult or unusual cases.
5. Testifies in court when required.
6. Develops and maintains positive working relationship with the District Attorney, Law Enforcement, Families, Funeral Directors, Forensic Pathologist, Medical staff etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE –
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND
Completion of Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university in a related field of study, such as: forensic science; criminal justice; anthropology; psychology; sociology; biological science; nursing; or chemistry. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis; AND
Two (2) years of full-time work experience in medicolegal death investigation is preferred. Two (2) years of full-time related work experience involving investigation and/or wound and pathology experience is required. A Master's Degree in forensic science or a relevant field may be substituted for the work experience requirement; AND
Employees assigned to this title will be required to possess and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operator's license and have a clean driving record; AND
Professional certification or licensure in one of the following fields is preferred: ABMDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators), law enforcement, nursing, radiology, EMT/Paramedic, or any forensic concentration; OR
EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle license, issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Five (5) years of previous medical experience required.
