It’s Lexington Water Week March 19 – 27! People of all ages, abilities and interests are invited to participate in a variety of in-person, virtual and self-guided events. Water Week helps residents connect to local waterways and take steps to improve and protect water quality.

Water Week events include creek walks at Raven Run and other city parks, a hike at Floracliff Nature Sanctuary, a geocaching how-to session (think treasure hunting) at McConnell Springs, group litter-cleanups, community garden tours, a water-cycle planetarium show, a water trivia and board game night, Q&As about Lexington’s Stormwater Incentive Grant Program, an info session about SCUBA diving in Kentucky, and an introduction to canoeing.

Individual and self-guided activities include coloring sheets, geocaching and family litter cleanups. Creek Sweep litter cleanup kits will be available throughout the week at multiple locations around Lexington. Kits contain trash bags and gloves so that households can hold their own litter cleanups at nearby parks, backyard creeks or in their neighborhoods.

Find out event details at lexingtonky.gov/WaterWeek.

Water Week is sponsored by the City of Lexington, the Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute, and the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

If you are interested in adopting Ceelo Green, call our Main Adoption Center today at 859-233-0044 x 223 or stop by for a meet-and-greet. His adoption fee is only $25 through the month of March during our Lucky Charms promotion!

City now accepting Community Environmental Academy Applications:

Returning to in-person sessions after a two-year pause, the Community Environmental Academy (CEA) is once again open for applications. This Academy is designed to connect Lexington residents to local environmental topics. Areas covered include water quality, wastewater treatment, urban forestry, transportation, waste management and more.

Participants explore the city’s Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works through a series of talks, tours and hands-on learning experiences. These half-day sessions will be held on two Saturdays in June, and one Saturday a month from July through November.

After November, participants will spend the next six months working together to develop and execute projects related to academy topics that benefit their community. Projects will be completed in May 2023.

“Many of the past projects and programs born from the Community Environmental Academy continue to benefit the city today,” says Nancy Albright, the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works. “We’re excited to continue providing the opportunity for Lexington residents to engage with our department and improve their community.”

Past CEA projects include:
● The Storm Drain Design program;
● The Go See Trees program, highlighting local trees; and
● A pop-up streetscape at the intersection of Loudon and Bryan Avenue.

Applications are open through Thursday, March 31.
Find more details, including the full schedule and application at LexingtonKY.gov/CEA .

Do you have an elderly family member that needs extra attention? Has it been difficult taking off work to take your family member to the doctor? Does your family member need a daily companion to help with dressing, hygiene, cooking, eating, cleaning house, going on errands?

A 45 years medical professional, that retired and ready to go back to work. I prefer to work with the elderly or those that need some special attention.

I am open to different situations that will help your family and love one.

Message me and we can discuss what is needed and what can be done for your family member.
Can you remind us where to buy the new Lexington city flag? And has anyone put it on a baseball cap yet?
I noticed new lights in the intersection of Pasadena and Harrodsburg Road. Is this to alleviate traffic there? Sometimes I have had to wait for the light to change three times when turning left from Pasadena.
Thank you, Amada Bledsoe, for your advocacy. Your grateful district citizen
Couldn't help but notice this picture.

I'm guessing you never had to drink from well water so contaminated by maverick strip miners that it smelled like eggs? And it was so orange that it turned every piece of white clothing you had orange- so to this very day you don't dare buy anything white because you saw your mom scrub and scrub at sulphur stains that never would come out?

This was my childhood. And there are thousands of kids growing up without clean drinking water.

I'm guessing if you had this experience you wouldn't be all giddy over Scott Pruitt or his visit to Lexington.
