Here is your outlook for the week. The main highlights will be a chance for showers and storms Wednesday and Thursday. Some of these may produce some locally gusty winds, especially across E KY, SE OH, and W WV.

A little warmer tonight compared with yesterday, although still comfortable. Expect fog in the early to mid morning breaking up by late morning. Here's a look at your low's for tonight.

09/24/2023

Lingering showers become gradually confined to the mountains through this afternoon as clouds remain in place. Some patchy fog will be possible in the valleys overnight tonight, especially near any breaks in cloud cover. Weak disturbances transiting the region Monday may yield some additional afternoon showers, although most should stay dry.

Here is a look at the latest information on Ophelia. It will track north then shift more northeasterly by Sunday. Rainfall amounts have not changed much for our area and most of the heavier rain will be confined to the Eastern Panhandle. For more info and updates to Ophelia check out nhc.noaa.gov.

09/23/2023

While the mountains will keep the heaviest rain from reaching most of our state, the northeastern mountains will still receive some rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia today into Sunday. Amounts in our coverage area are forecasted to stay below an inch, so flooding is not expected.

09/22/2023

After another dry, tranquil evening, there will be less if any fog overnight, due to a bit of a breeze and clouds rolling in from Tropical Storm Ophelia. Rain associated with Ophelia could back into our northern mountains from the east first thing Saturday morning, and then is likely to persist through Saturday and Saturday night, even into Sunday morning, as Ophelia or its remnants only slowly pulls away. The chance for rain decreases farther west and south, so that the weather should remain nice and dry across southeast Ohio and northeast Kentucky this weekend. The new work week starts dry throughout the area, but a weak, slow-moving system may then affect our area through mid-week, with rain showers, and perhaps an afternoon thunderstorm. It could take much of the next work week to shake that system, especially if it interacts with the remnants of Ophelia.

This is a message from the Ashland Utilities. Boil Water Advisory lifted for Blackburn Avenue from Wi******er Avenue to Gallagher Drive. Happy Friday. Below is an update on the rain and track for Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen. Heaviest rain will stay out of the bulk of our area, but Saturday will certainly be wet in the northeastern mountains. Amounts will generally be less than half an inch by the time it is said and done on Sunday.

09/21/2023

Nice weather finishes out the work week, with another warm afternoon Friday. A potential tropical system does brush the central Appalachians Saturday and Saturday night, and then should pull away from the area on Sunday. The weather should remain nice and dry across the middle Ohio Valley this weekend, and the new work week starts dry throughout the area. A weak but slow-moving system may then affect our area through mid-week, with rain showers, and perhaps an afternoon thunderstorm.

Effective today, 9/21/23, there is a Burn Ban in effect till September 30th in Boyd County. After consulting with NWS Charleston, the decision was made due to no significant precipitation expected for remainder of this month and existing dry conditions.

09/21/2023

Outside of some afternoon showers in the mountains this afternoon and another round of dense fog tonight, the weather will be mostly quiet and pleasant through Friday! Rain chances increase this weekend. Enjoy the next few days of decent weather!

Just a reminder that Boyd County has open burning restrictions in place through Sept 30th. No open burning allowed from May 1-Sept 30. With our current dry conditions and little precipitation forecasted in next 5-7 days…conditions are ripe for wildfires.

09/20/2023

Here is an update to the extended forecast: dry through Friday with warm afternoons, then clouds and a little cooler than average over the weekend and into next week. A coastal system may brush the mountains with rain over the weekend, and then the weather next week depends upon whether that system interacts with a new system approaching from the west. Stay tuned…

09/20/2023

Here is the extended forecast. Dry through Friday, then clouds and cooler than average temps move in on Saturday. Saturday night into Sunday we will see rain chances increase and staying around through next week.

The rest of the week looks to be decent with mostly to partly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. Dense river valley fog is likely each morning with cool overnight lows, calm winds, and high pressure overhead. Rain chances return late Saturday and Sunday with a system off the coast.

09/18/2023

High pressure brings dry weather for tonight through the balance of the work week. This set up will also promote overnight and early morning dense valley fog. Below normal temperatures can be expected through Wednesday. We will then see a gradual warm up to around our seasonal average Thursday and Friday; cooling off again this weekend.

09/18/2023

This is a message from Ashland Utilities. A Boil Water Advisory issued for Oak Terrace, Ox Camp Dr., Pamela Dr., Lake Mary Carol Rd., & Oakleaf Ct due to water main break. This completes the message from Ashland Utilities.

09/18/2023

This is a message from the Ashland Utilities. Boil Water Advisory lifted for Dawson Lane. This has been a message from the City of Ashland Utilities.

09/18/2023

Cooler weather today behind a cold front. Allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination this morning as there is dense fog in spots. Drying out starting tonight through the end of the work week.

09/17/2023

With recent rainfall, near calm wind, and at least partially clearing skies overnight across the lowlands, fog and low clouds are likely to develop heading into Monday morning. These may be a bit more widespread than usual, and take a bit longer to burn off. If you must drive in foggy conditions later tonight or early Monday morning, keep the following safety tips in mind:

09/17/2023

Heads up Tri-State ... Safety inspections of the downtown Ashland bridges will mean lane closures - bridges will remain open - the next two weeks. Inspectors will work between rush hours to lessen traffic impacts. Schedule: On Sept. 18-22, one lane closed on the 12th Street (green) bridge, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and on Sept. 25-29, one lane closed on the 13th Street (blue) bridge, 9-4. Watch for merging traffic.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet bridge inspections are an important safety program to ensure all structures in Kentucky remain usable for traffic and commerce. Inspections require lane closures or other traffic changes to protect inspection vehicles, personnel in work zones, and travelers.

09/17/2023

Showers and possibly thunderstorms today. Showers may linger Monday in and near the mountains, before the pattern opens up into another dry, pleasant stretch for the balance of the new work week.

09/17/2023

The International Space Station (ISS) will be visible this evening at 8:09 PM and again at 9:48 PM, and most areas should see clear to partly cloudy skies for the 8:09 PM pass over. Later tonight, clouds will thicken and rain will move in from the southwest.

09/16/2023

Saturday will be dry for most areas, although showers and thunderstorms could move into southwest Virginia during the afternoon hours. The showers and thunderstorms will spread northward tonight and continue into Sunday.

When is Center Street in Catlettsburg going to be cleaned up and reopened ?
It's hard to believe in the days we live in that we are going on day 3 of no water. It would have been nice to get a warning. Does anyone know when they will be turning us back on?
my son on gartrell st has been without power for over a week now. he did his part by paying nearly a grand to an electrician, and now that the rest of the neighborhood is back on, he is left with a live wire in his yard (he has 4 children), and no heat on some bitterly cold nights. there has now been over 8 calls to AEP about the live wire and his need to have that hooked back up to the house. work order after work order put in, and after each call, they seem to have no record of it each time....does my son have to wait until someone either dies of electrocution or hypothermia to get some help? What a scary situation this has been, and very frustrating....i guess i assumed wrong when i thought that downed live wires in a very crowded neighborhood full of children would be a priority.
Are we still on a Level 3?
