received donation of body armor
Lexington Police Department, MO, - K9, Sasha have received
bullet and stab protective vests thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit
organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 vest were
embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc.”. K9 Sasha’s vest was embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Don
Fike.”.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose
mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of
law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially
lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and
National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,513 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states,
made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and
certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also
eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s
throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount,
while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of
$1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For

The Lexington Police department would like to remind the community and Leslie Bell Families of the drop off/ pick up procedures for the school.

The safety of our students is the utmost priority.

If you are dropping off children in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon, we ask that you utilize the pick-up/drop-off line on Monroe street. Please do not park/ drop off children on Bloom, South, 20th street, Oneida, Poplar, the parking lot on Monroe or the alley way between Bloom and Oneida. Please use the line! This creates a traffic back up and citizens who live in the area cannot get through roadways, or down the alley.
The biggest concern is that we have students from all directions, attempting to cross the street. This is unsafe, and it cannot continue. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Starting tomorrow we will increase patrol and have more officers watching.

Leslie Bell staff works hard to make sure the drop off / pick up line moves swiftly and everyone is safe.

National Dog Day-

Today we celebrate our four-legged friends who bring so much love, loyalty, and joy into our lives — including the incredible K-9s who serve alongside our law enforcement officers!
K9 Sasha and her handler Jeremy Blackmon currently serve the Lexington Police Department.
These dedicated dogs are more than pets. They are highly trained partners who help keep our communities safe through their courage, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty.

We’re excited to welcome our New SRO Maggie Burkhart as we begin a new school year!

She will be working closely with students, staff, families, and school administrators to help create a safe, positive, and welcoming school environment. Beyond safety and security, an SRO is an important part of building relationships with students and being a trusted resource within our school community.

Training Day at LMS.

The Lexington Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and community. As part of that commitment, our officers regularly conduct active shooter response training within the Lexington School District.

Training in our school buildings provides officers with valuable familiarity with building layouts, entry points, classrooms, and other critical areas. It also allows officers to practice coordinated response tactics in the environment where they would respond if an emergency were ever to occur.

These training exercises are are an important part of maintaining preparedness. While we hope these skills are never needed, regular training helps ensure our officers are ready to respond quickly and effectively to protect our students, staff, and community.

The Lexington Police Department appreciates the continued support of the Lexington School District as we work together to keep our schools as safe as possible.

UPDATE – Lexington Police Department!

The Lexington Police Department would like to thank our community for its assistance regarding the request for information about an incident reported to have occurred at College Park on State Street.

After thoroughly reviewing surveillance footage from the park and surrounding areas, as well as following up on the information received, investigators were unable to substantiate the claim that was reported. At this time, there is no threat to the public

The purpose of our original post was to seek information about a claim that had been made so investigators could determine exactly what occurred. We appreciate everyone who shared information and helped us conduct a thorough investigation.

As a reminder, parents and guardians are encouraged to closely supervise and monitor their children while they are at the park or any public space, especially during evening hours.

‼️ Lexington Police Department Requests Public Assistance ‼️

The Lexington Police Department is asking for the public's assistance regarding an incident that occurred this evening at College Park on State Street.

If your child was present at College Park between 9:00 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, we ask that you please contact the Lexington Police Department. Investigators are seeking to speak with individuals who may have witnessed or have information related to an incident that occurred during that time.

Even if you are unsure whether your child observed anything significant, any information they may have could be helpful to the investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lexington Police Department (Central Dispatch) at 660-584-2104.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lexington Police Department

On Saturday, August 1, at approximately 12:44 p.m., officers with the Lexington Police Department were dispatched to the area of Summit Camp Road following a report of a deceased individual.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The individual had been wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in Richmond, Missouri.

At this time, there is no threat to the public. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing in coordination with the appropriate agencies.

The Lexington Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Richmond Police Department for their assistance during the search efforts conducted the previous evening.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available and is appropriate for public disclosure.

Did you know the City of Lexington has a leash law to help keep people and pets safe?

Unfortunately, we have seen an abundance of unleashed animals in public areas. This has made other citizens very uncomfortable and apprehensive about being in the public space. This also includes dogs roaming or getting out of their enclosure or gate. You are required as a pet owner to keep your dog leashed and under control.

Lexington City Code, Chapter 5, Section 5-32 (Leash Law) states:

"No person shall permit a dog to go outside its kennel or pen unless such dog is securely leashed with a leash no longer than four (4) feet in length with a minimum tensile strength of three hundred (300) pounds."

This ordinance helps:
✔️Protect your pet from traffic and other hazards.
✔️ Keep families, children, and other pets safe.
✔️Ensure everyone can enjoy Lexington's parks, sidewalks, and public spaces.
