When extinguishing a vehicle fire, we typically close the interstate because of visibility and for our safety and yours. We reopen it as quickly as we safely can. This video was taken by friends of our department just a short while after we began applying water.

Vehicle fire this evening on I-55 Southbound just past the Hudson-Stuckey overpass. After a quick knockdown, we were able to reopen a lane of traffic.

Lexington Engine 72 and Ambulance 3N30 ran calls in Normal and Bloomington yesterday in the aftermath of the afternoon storms. They come to Lexington whenever we call for aid, and we were ready to help them

Yesterday, 6 of your volunteer firefighters went above and beyond and participated in an extra night of live fire training with Gridley FireDepartment and Towanda Fire Department. There's a lot of new faces amongst these three mutual aid departments, and we invite you to inquire with us about joining - we don't bite.

Thursday night we got to practice with live fire thanks to a property owner who wanted to bring down a disused farm building.

After permitting and proper notices, in earlier weeks we practiced "firefighter down" scenarios - cutting walls, turning windows into doors, declaring and responding to maydays, and rapidly removing a FF and beginning emergency medical procedures.

For this exercise, together with our automatic aid partner Towanda Fire Department who brought an engine, tender, and plenty of firefighters, our mutual aid partners Gridley FireDepartment and Chenoa Fire Department who supplied water tenders, we conducted a demolition burn. This let us practice many skills with high realism: 1) Our newer firefighters now understand just how hot a fire can be, and they got plenty of hose and nozzle time and practiced exposure protection. 2) Our engineers established a water supply through nursing tenders and relay pumping. 3) McLean County Emergency Management Agency deployed a drone with thermal imaging capabilities, with which we were able to precisely direct our hose lines to protect the nearby shed from the INTENSE heat (see their linked post for pictures in the comments below). 4) The list goes on...

Just as we began our training burn, a 911 call for service was received over in the City of Lexington, IL. This was no problem since whenever we plan intensive training, we also keep an engine and crew ready to go. They returned to scene just in time to help with the last few minutes of clean up.

🚑 A New Chapter Begins for Lexington Fire Department EMS and Octavia Fire Protection District 🚑

At 12:00 a.m. on July 1, Lexington Fire Department officially began providing Ambulance Service for the Octavia Fire Protection District, marking the beginning of an exciting partnership dedicated to delivering high-quality emergency medical care to the residents of the district.

When the clock struck midnight on July 1, LeRoy Ambulance 3N33 signed off and went out of service, returning to their home station, and Octavia FPD Ambulance 3N29 officially went into service, marking the seamless transition to Lexington Fire Department EMS coverage.

We are proud to recognize the very first crew to provide coverage under this new contract:

Part-Time EMT Dawn Wilson
Full-Time EMS Supervisor Bobby Kelly
Full-Time FTO/EMT Cody Kelly

Their professionalism, dedication, and commitment set the tone as we begin this new chapter of service.

This partnership represents more than expanded EMS coverage—it reflects a shared commitment between the Lexington Fire Department and the Octavia Fire Protection District to provide dependable, compassionate, and high-quality emergency medical services. We are honored to have earned the trust of the Octavia Fire Protection District and look forward to serving the community for years to come.

The Lexington Fire Department Ambulance is excited to place our new FERNO Power X2 Stretcher and Auto Load System into service!

This state-of-the-art equipment is designed with both patient care and provider safety in mind. The powered stretcher and loading system significantly reduce the physical demands placed on our crews by eliminating the need to manually lift, push, or pull the stretcher during deployment and loading. By reducing these repetitive lifting tasks, we can help decrease the risk of workplace injuries while ensuring a safer and more efficient experience for our patients.

Our personnel spent a couple of days training on the new system and becoming familiar with its operation. It's been impressive to see the stretcher deploy and stow with the touch of a button—sometimes it feels like it can be operated with just one finger! ☝️

Investments like this allow us to better protect our members while continuing to provide the highest level of service to our community. We are proud to add this advanced technology to our ambulance and look forward to putting it to work for the citizens we serve.

A special thanks goes out to our Board Members and community for their support, our FERNO Rep, Brett and Ambulance Sales Rep, Mark, for coming out to install the system and to our EMS Supervisor Bobby for making this project happen, as well as our Field Training Officers Dillan and Cody for taking the time to learn this equipment to train the rest of the personnel on its operations.
