Necco provides services related to the welfare of children in need of loving, stable and supportive families. We do this through adoption, foster care, independent living, supported living, community rehabilitation, residential living, mental health counseling and related support services. Necco operates in Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana and serves children age birth to 21.

Our Lexington team was on hand when Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

He also signed multiple bills related to child protection including House Bill 207 to protect children from online victimization, and Senate Bill 229 to strengthen reporting requirements, making it easier for individuals to report suspected cases of abuse, neglect, or human trafficking.

Create a list of outdoor items to find—a yellow flower, a bird feather, and heart-shaped rock.

Not only does this this activity encourage observation skills and an appreciation for nature, it gets kids moving and enjoying the fresh air. Plus, adding small challenges makes walking more fun, so you can all enjoy a little more time together as a family!

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect.

April Smith, a Necco Foster Care employee in Kentucky, shares her thoughts on how Necco prevents abuse and supports children in our communities.

Q: How does Necco advocate for child abuse prevention within our foster care programs?

A: This process begins with the home study, where Necco thoroughly screens potential foster homes. Once approved, foster parents must complete mandatory training. Our case managers provide essential support throughout the placement, and we offer ongoing education to ensure foster parents are well-prepared to care for the children that are placed in their home.

Q: How does Necco support children in foster care who have experienced abuse or significant trauma?

A: Necco supports children in foster care who have experienced abuse or trauma by offering internal clinical services from providers trained in evidence-based, trauma-informed care. Additionally, we provide ongoing training to help foster parents better understand trauma and its impact on the youth we serve.

The Kentucky Necco foster care team was proud to show their support for Child Abuse Awareness Month at the State Capitol in Frankfort, Ky. with Governor Andy Beshear.

The team joined the governor to place pinwheels on the lawn of the Capitol. Each pinwheel symbolizes the bright future we’re working to create for children in need!

Necco is incredibly grateful for Gov. Beshear’s continued support, which helps us place children in loving foster homes and bridge the gaps in Kentucky’s foster care system. Together, we’re making a difference!

It's become all too familiar—having to turn away children who are in desperate need of a foster home because we simply don’t have many open beds.

Every day, we see referrals of children who have nowhere to go, and it’s gut-wrenching to know that we can't help them all because of limited space. These kids deserve safety, stability, and hope for the future, but without additional open beds, we are forced to turn them away.

We’re doing everything we can, but we need the support of our community to make a real difference. You can support the children in this state by becoming a foster parent.

If you’re able to help by either becoming a foster parent or simply spreading the word, we’d be forever grateful. Together, we can ensure that every child has a safe place to call home🎄
