Congratulations to EMS Assistant Chief William “Lee” Fowler on being named a Hometown Hero!

Today, Lee was recognized through the NCADA Hometown Heroes Program, with the award presented by John Hiester Automotive Group.

With more than 40 years of dedicated service to Harnett County and surrounding communities, Lee has made a lasting impact on emergency medical services, his fellow first responders, and countless patients and families.

As Lee prepares for his upcoming retirement from Harnett County EMS, we are especially proud to see his lifetime of service and dedication recognized.

Congratulations, Lee! Thank you for your leadership, friendship, and unwavering commitment to serving others. This recognition is truly well deserved!

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Harnett County Emergency Services EMS Training Captain Kenny Lorkiewicz. Kenny dedicated more than 16 years of service to Harnett County Emergency Services, having joined our department in 2010.

As a Training Captain & Paramedic, Kenny played an important role in preparing both emergency responders and members of our community to respond when emergencies occurred. He taught countless CPR, First on Scene, and other emergency medical training courses to EMS personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, and citizens throughout Harnett County. His legacy of teaching extended well beyond the classroom by equipping others with the skills and confidence to save lives.

We extend our deepest condolences and offer our prayers to all our staff, his family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh visited the site of the tornado in southern Harnett County on October 13 and was able to confirm a strong EF1 tornado with winds of 105+ mph struck this area. Harnett County Emergency Services staff assisted with this review by providing photographs, damage assessment maps and flew a drone to provide visual data to the weather service meteorologist.

CONFIRMED TORNADO IN BUNNLEVEL

A tornado touched down in the Williams Farm Subdivision, located off Highway 401 South near the Cumberland County line and Horseshoe Bend Road.

Summerville Bunnlevel Fire & Rescue, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, Harnett County Sheriff's 911, and Harnett County Emergency Services responded to the area to assist residents, assess damage, and ensure the safety of those impacted. Fire and Emergency Services personnel established an incident command post and deployed teams to conduct door-to-door welfare checks, ensuring all residents were safe and accounted for.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. However, approximately 20 homes sustained varying degrees of damage, including damaged roofs and fences, broken windows, overturned outbuildings, and debris embedded in exterior walls. Two homes were assisted by the American Red Cross due to extensive damage from the tornado.

Congratulations and Happy Retirement to Northwest Harnett Fire Chief Chris Prince

On September 30, 2026, Northwest Harnett Fire Department Fire Chief Chris Prince retired after an incredible 36 years of dedicated service. Chief Prince was a charter member of this department and served the last 25 years as their Chief.

Throughout his career, Chief Prince has been an advocate and supporter of Harnett County Emergency Services and all things associated with our office. His many years working with us included participating hiring boards, advisory boards and being a friend and mentor to so many of our leaders and employees. Two of his stations currently house two of our Harnett County Emergency Services Paramedic ambulances.

Under Chief Princes’ leadership, Northwest Harnett Fire Department saw tremendous growth and progress. He was instrumental in the construction of three fire stations within their fire district and led the department when Northwest Harnett achieved an ISO Class 3 rating.

Thank you Chief Prince for your dedicated service to the citizens of Harnett County for 36 years and happy retirement to you and your family.

Our Fire Marshal Division works every day to protect our citizens by conducting fire and life safety inspections at schools, businesses, and other facilities throughout Harnett County.

Congratulations to the Angier Black River Fire Department Board of Directors, Chief and officers, staff, and volunteers on the groundbreaking of its new fire station on Mangum Road!

This groundbreaking is a great example of successful planning, strong leadership, and a forward-looking vision for meeting the needs of a growing community. This important investment in public safety will help provide faster response times and enhanced emergency services to the citizens of Angier and the Harnett Central area.
