First Lady Suzanne and I were beyond honored to join a pre-CWS tailgate with volunteer firefighters, Douglas County Sheriff's Office (NE) deputies, and their families. Thank you to the generous folks who made this possible for our first responders.

Thank you FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency for the swift approval of the Fire Management Assistance Grant which will help cover the costs in fighting the South Fork Fire near Crawford.

We’ve made serious progress, with containment up to 45% as of late last night, but the fight isn’t over.

God Bless all our firefighters, National Guardsmen, and other responders working to contain this fire. Please pray for our volunteers who are working to protect Nebraska.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of celebrating the opening of the new baseball practice field at Creighton University. This field was completed just in time for the CWS and will allow visiting teams to practice in state-of-the-art facilities while competing here in Omaha. This project is, in large part, the result of a tremendous investment made by the state during my first year in office.

We continue to monitor the wildfire threat Nebraskans continue to face.

In western Nebraska, windy conditions are making containment difficult, but the Nebraska National Guard helicopter and ground units I ordered to support local firefighters are helping.

We’re making sure we do whatever it takes to protect our people, land, and livestock.

Some evacuations have been ordered by local authorities. If you are in the affected area, please follow the directions of authorities.

The Greatest Show on Dirt returns to Omaha on Friday! Today I helped kick off the festivities at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. This marks the 76th year that CWS has been hosted in Omaha.

Emergency management happens wherever and whenever it is needed.

After a press conference kicking off this year’s CWS, I pulled to the side and signed a proclamation declaring an emergency for the fire near Fort Robinson/Crawford, formally authorizing the Nebraska National Guard and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency to deploy additional resources to fight the fire.

I have been briefed by the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency regarding the wildfire burning northwest of Fort Robinson and Crawford. The terrain in that area is extremely rugged and windy conditions are compounding the challenge.

I have ordered all necessary resources—including Nebraska National Guard helicopter units—to support local firefighters. Our team is coordinating with the U.S. Forest Service, which is also deploying additional assets.

Please keep our firefighters and responders in your prayers as they continue a tough and dangerous fight through the night, and if you are in the affected area follow all orders from local authorities.
