The Children's Room is getting a refresh!

Thanks so much to our friends at the Bank of Tescott for volunteering to paint last night! They worked so fast, the paint didn't have time to dry enough for a second coat, but you can see how the room is already transforming!

We hope to have the room reset in time for Lindsborg in Bloom on Saturday, but for now, it is not available for play. Board books have been temporarily moved to the main children's area for the few days to get this finished. We will let you know when the Storytime Room reopens with the new look!

It's National Library Week!

Today we are celebrating Right to Read Day with a "Most Disliked" Book Display. Librarians and Patrons have nominated their most disliked books - do you agree?

Come add your most disliked book to the list, check out one someone else nominated, and either way, celebrate that our library supports access to books for everyone!

On this final day of Week of the Young Child (April 11-17), we want to finish with Benjamin Franklin's words: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Young children are always learning! Through play, singing songs, listening to music, sharing stories, being involved with daily family life -- all this and more can be a part of a child's early learning journey.

At the Library, we want to support everyone in lifelong learning -- come stop by & we'll be happy to help!

Week of the Young Child (April 11-17) celebrates the importance of early learning, but what should be the goal of this important foundation?

One possibility put forth by Maria Montessori states "the goal of early child should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn." We agree -- lifelong learning enriches our lives at every age and stage -- and the best way to start is when children are young! When we enjoy learning, that is a true success!

Midway through our Week of the Young Child (April 11-17) daily posts, we must pause to thank our teachers. There is indeed an art to teaching, to growing young minds in both creativity and knowledge, with so many different kinds of learning styles and methods.

We know particular teachers who come to mind when reading Albert Einstein's words: "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." Do you? Reach out and thank them!

For Week of the Young Child (April 11-17, 2026), we want to echo Helen Keller: "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much!" Young children don't learn on their own, they grow with support: first with their parents as their first teachers, then growing their support team to include family friends, child care providers, teachers, librarians, and more!

At the Library, we have family-style story time with bubbles, music, books, and play Tuesday mornings 10:30-11:15. If that time does not work for you, the story time room is always equipped with puzzles, puppets, play kitchen, and train table for play at the Library in addition to books for all ages and stages. We hope to see you there!

Week of the Young Child (April 11-17, 2026) is a joyful celebration of early learning, young children, and the adults who support them. As we start our week of daily posts, remember to have fun with lifelong learning!

As Mr. Fred Rogers says, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

Today - and every day - we hope you find time to enjoy play!

We are celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 11-17 at the Library!

It all starts with Kick-off Saturday - come join the fun at Chalk the Valk! When you pick up a voucher by Friday, April 10, we will pay for registration for artists 6th grade & younger.

Next week, come explore your library for self-paced activities including a new story walk featuring "Grumpy Monkey: Spring Fever" by Suzanne Lang, two scavenger hunts, and giveaways for children participating.

We will be sharing daily ideas on incorporating early learning with your children -- we are looking forward to celebrating a week of early learning, young children, and the adult support team!
