Stacie Grissom, 36, and her husband Sean, 35, bought an 111-year-old schoolhouse in Franklin, Indiana and converted it into their home. They purchased it in August 2021 for $175,000, and it took three years to get the schoolhouse move-in ready.

LAST CHANCE!!! For those of you who pre-ordered the Little Hocking School history books and have not picked them up, we will be distributing the books ($20 each) in Little Hocking at the site of the former elementary school (SR 7& Federal Road) Wednesday evening, Dec 11 from 6-7 PM. Please rsvp and let us know if you’re planning to pick up a book. Be prepared to pay when you pick up your book(s).

Note: We have NO EXTRA copies remaining. If you don’t make arrangements to pick up your pre-ordered copies on or before Dec 15, we will offer those copies for sale beginning Dec 16.

Great News!

For those of you who ordered your copy of The History of Little Hocking Elementary School, the books are now printed. The book is here in time for Christmas. Folks who ordered the books can pick up your copy this Saturday.

Also, on behalf of the Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department (LHVFD) we will be taking orders for the Little Hocking Alumni T-shirts on Saturday. The “There’s No School Like Old School” T shirts for the Little Hocking Elementary School are maroon with yellow jacket gold lettering (shown here with white lettering). The cost is $20, (for 2XL add $1, and for 3XL add $2). If you are from out of the area and want a shirt shipped to you, please add $10 for shipping. Please pay when you pick up your shirt. All proceeds benefit the LHVFD.

Arthur Joe McGirr
June 6, 1956 — August 30, 2024
Little Hocking

LITTLE HOCKING—Arthur Joe McGirr, 68, of Little Hocking, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1956, in Parkersburg, WV to the late Arthur and Hazel Husk McGirr.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed spending time on his farm with his family and his beloved dog, Lucy.

Arthur is survived by his wife of forty years, Jane Fruchey McGirr; two sons, Seth McGirr (Cynthia Starcher), and Jedidiah McGirr; one daughter Emma McGirr (Benjamin Tucker); one sister Keron (Eldon) Brown; a sister in law Ellen Fruchey (L.E.) Cook and their daughters Amanda Cook and Katie (Jason) Marostica; and a nephew Michael McVicar.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Arthur and Hazel McGirr.

A memorial service will be held at 7 P.M., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at White Funeral Home in Coolville, OH, with Pastor Bill Dunfee officiating.

The family will be accepting friends and family at the funeral home Wednesday, from 5 P.M. until the time of service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to White Funeral Home in Coolville, OH.

General Info:
A banquet room in the J.P. Henry's Restaurant has been reserved Saturday, October 26, from 6-9 PM for a 45th reunion of the Class of 79 from Warren High School.

Light appetizers (Meatballs, Mozzarella Sticks, Artichoke dip, Loaded Potato Skins, and Boneless Wings) will be served. There is a cash bar right outside the room.

We will also have access to the patio area if the weather is nice to enjoy, so please dress casual and have a great time.

Pay at the door; price is $25/person and $40/couple in order to cover the cost of the venue, food, sales tax and gratuities.

So you all know, the LHS book is a non-profit endeavor. It is solely a labor of love for our school! No one is making money from this, the price of the book is only covering the cost of printing and binding. We need to sell this book (currently at 230 pages) for $23-$25 just to cover the cost of printing. We just want the story told, that was/is the goal. If you are from out of town and want a copy…no problem. Just let me know. Thank you all for your interest in the place that helped make us the people we are today.

We will be taking orders (just orders; no cash) for the 2021 LIHOCKELSCAN (Little Hocking School Annual) at the ice cream social sponsored by LHVFD. The book documents the history of Little Hocking Elementary School from the late 1800’s to 2021 and the subsequent demolition in 2021. Please come to the ice cream social and order your copy!

I am starting a Facebook Group, because it has been too difficult for others to post on this Little Hocking Elementary Alum page. I will begin posting additional items in this Group. I hope you will as well.

The GROUP is Little Hocking Elementary Alumni. This page will still be active to look at the already posted pics as I doubt if I get them all moved over to the Group!
