On this day way back in 1874, Harry Houdini was born. Houdini's big break came in 1899 when he followed the excellent advice given to him to concentrate on developing his escape acts, which launched him into becoming one of the most famous entertainers in history.

On this day back in 1928, Mister (Fred) Rogers was born. Mister Rogers had so many encouraging tidbits of wisdom and encouragement to share, if you have a little time, it's completely worth taking a walk down memory lane today.

In honor of Women's History Month, this month's Notary Spotlight is on Emily Calkins Stebbins. In 1862, Emily stepped in as the appointed replacement for the Iowa county deputy recording clerk and treasurer when he left office to enlist in the Civil War.

She served in that office until 1864. Many refused to allow her to wait on them because they believed strongly that a woman couldn't do the job.

In 1866, Emily was commissioned as the first US female Notary by Iowa Governor William M Stone and had a long career as an Abstractor, Insurance Agent, and Pension Attorney before retiring in 1929.
