I want to say a heart felt thank you for all of you who responded to our hater yesterday! Her comment was absolutely ridiculous and hateful! I wish she could understand how many times my phone rings during the day, along with emails, messages and tags, it truly is a lot. Baby season is incredibly hard! My day starts at 6 am and I go until about midnight!
This week has also been hard because my sweet dog of 13 years had to be put down (cancer), my daughter is graduating (preparing for a party), work and everything else.

Comments like Courtney’s are so discouraging and then we question why the heck we do what we do. I appreciate everyone’s kind words. I haven’t had a chance to read all the comments and reviews, but you mean the world to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I do have THE best supporters!! Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!

This little groundhog was brought in by ACO Betsy who went out of her way to bring him to me after her long day.

He was caught in a soccer net. He was freed but covered in fly strike. It was the worst case I’ve ever seen. Fly strike in his mouth and in his face. Took me a minute to clean him up but I swear that he was smiling when he was done. I think we should call him Guy Smiley!!

I can’t imagine how uncomfortable he felt. He has been treated for internal parasites too which is always a prudent thing to do with flystrike!

Mama update!!

I wanted to post a wonderful update on mama, the groundhog!
Her babies have been spotted!! Isn’t that fabulous news. ♥️ The finder has been trying to get a photo for us!! Yay!
It is such good news!

On a side note, many people are upset that she and said she was only paralyzed and that she should have been taken to the location to find her babies. I have refrained from comment because it was too numerous to comment!

It was evident that mama was in extreme pain and as soon as we did the radiographs, I understood why.
Her spine was broken! I will include the radiographs so you understand the depth of her injury. She also sustained cracked ribs and a collapsed lung!
In addition, giving her babies to care for would have been cruel!

Unfortunately, humanely euthanizing is sometimes necessary in rescue. And is sometimes, the right thing to do. No creature should suffer. The vet was kind enough to let her go humanely!

We all adored mama and I hope many of our supporters, have a new found love of groundhogs as we do here at NHH!
We think they are pretty darn cool!!
Thank you for loving her. 💕♥️

Stay tuned later today for a social surprise regarding mama. We have her paw prints here! We will put them up for silent auction. They are pretty neat and a beautiful way to remember her!!
