🌟 2024 Alumni Hall of Fame Spotlight 📒

Tom Clark (left, pictured with fellow Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee, Ron Ward)

Mr Clark was raised in Central Indiana, a graduate from Danville High School in 1964. As such he was raised with knowledge of Hendricks County, the needs and concerns of a suburban town and surrounding farming community.. As a senior in school he asked for everyone.s best wishes in supporting his ambition to be a Classroom Teacher. He never considered another career although his guidance counselors tried to convince him otherwise. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Milligan College in Tennessee and Masters of Arts in Teaching American History from DePauw University in Greencastle.

With this in mind, Mr Clark's life in NWHSC follows...
Mr Clark began teaching in NWHSC in the 1973-74 school year at NORTH SALEM. Along with others he was on the final staff teaching at North Salem. When Tri West opened in 1975 he was one of the original staff members.
Mr Clark's class was very purposeful. He was a strong advocate in the belief that Each Person Will Always Be His/Her Own Best Teacher. As such, he insisted that each student serve as his/her own architect in developing their Life Skills...that these become the norm in every student’s involvement in class. The tool used to heighten/reflect these skills in diligence, commitment, organization, expression…perseverance outlasting procrastination...was the Clark Notebook. It has been said countless times by students…after the fact of being in Mr Clark's class…the Clark Notebook was a rite of passage for juniors at Tri-West.

Beyond the classroom...in 1987 Mr Clark was selected by the Indiana House of Representatives as the ONLY INDIANA TEACHER to represent ALL Indiana teachers on a House of Representatives Congressional Committee studying the manner of Education in Indiana.
Mr Clark along with Co-Coach Eileen Lurker + several contributing teachers and Principal Ron Ward + Superintendent Larry Rambis...helped coach the Tri West Academic Decathlon teams to ELEVEN Indiana State Championships in 13 years...FIVE of those teams went on to participate as the Indiana representative in the National Finals.

1994 Newark NJ
1999 Los Angeles CA
2000 San Antonio TX
2001 Anchorage Alaska
2002 Phoenix AZ

In 1999 Mr Clark entered four of his decathlon team members to represent Tri West in the statewide INDIANA ECONOMICS COMPETITION sponsored by Indiana University and Purdue University. 63 schools throughout Indiana entered the competition. Tri-West defeated every school it faced. In the finals Tri West beat Indianapolis North Central High School in a 50 question final by the score of 45 to 5. After a 35 years teaching career, 30 years at NWHSC, 28 of those at Tri-West, Mr Clark retired in 2003.

Away from teaching, Mr Clark is an avid bicycler and sports fan. Throughout his life Mr Clark has been an active tournament bridge player...retiring from competitive play in 2019 ranked in the top 1% of all bridge players in the nation.

With his wife Jan, they now live in Venice Florida.

Congratulations to Mr. Clark!
