I'm going to briefly step outside my role of social media manager for Lodi Forward and do a little personal editorializing.

Given last night's bonkers sun-downing address by Trump, and various threats made by his lackeys in the government since then, I think it's valid to be concerned about how our votes and our right to vote will be affected in the future.

I've said many times since took office: Don't just show up to vote, DEMAND to vote. Demand it every damned day until Election Day! Don't assume someone will fix things for you! You must build or join your own cavalry! There are more of us than there are of them, and that is why they are making threats and lying about election fraud - they are afraid of the sleeping giant. It's time to wake up and flex our muscles!

During a press conference on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin openly threatened to jail state officials who refuse to cooperate with the Trump administration’s midterm election security “program” this fall, leaving a number of critics stunned over the blatant admission.Mull...

Not everyone can afford air conditioning, whether it's the AC itself, or the cost to run it. In this intense heat, please check in on your neighbors, especially the elderly or infirm. These temperatures can be fatal!

If you can't keep cool in your home, there are options in the area that can help, at least on a limited hours basis. Check out Columbia County's public cooling shelters.

Don't let political cronyism at the USPS disenfranchise you! Protect your right to vote, and don't wait to send in your mail-in ballots!

Please pass this message along! USPS changes make it imperative ballots that are mailed in are sent at least two weeks in advance for the August 11 primary election in Wisconsin to make the deadline to be counted. "Every single vote matters, and a ballot cannot count if it is still sitting in a postal facility when the polls close," said Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell.

Under Wisconsin state law, postmark dates are not taken into consideration for ballot tabulation. All absentee ballots must be in the physical possession of local election officials by 8 pm on Election Night to be counted. In Dane County that includes having the ballot received on Election Day to be delivered to the correct polling location by 8 pm.

You should not only expect your ballot to be counted, you should have confidence enough to know that it will be.

Wisconsin's elections are free and fair, and by design are nearly impossible to subject to wide-spread fraud. They are independently managed by nearly 1900 municipal clerks across the state, and are governed by state law. They are canvassed before they are certified, and election workers must undergo training. Any claims of fraud should be taken with several grains of salt, and should be accompanied by strong evidence. There are many checks and double-checks throughout the process. Yes, errors can and do occasionally happen, but because our elections are so decentralized, negative outcomes are generally contained to small batches ballots.
