This isn’t just about prediction markets, it’s about whether Washington can override the states simply because it wants to.

The Supremacy Clause is often treated like a blank check for federal power, but that is not what the Constitution says. Federal law is supreme only when it is made in pursuance of the Constitution. That distinction matters.

States are not branch offices of Washington. They are part of the constitutional structure designed to keep power closer to the people, protect liberty, and preserve self-government.

When constitutional limits become optional, liberty is never far behind.

Homelessness is one of the most urgent challenges facing our state, and Utah cannot afford to treat it like a problem that belongs to someone else.

This last week, we had the opportunity to meet with leaders from HUD while they were in Utah and discuss the work already happening here: stronger coordination, local partnerships, public safety, treatment, housing, and long term stability.

I’m grateful to Utah’s homelessness team, including State Homelessness Coordinator Tyler Clancy, for using this visit as a chance to show what Utah is building and how our approach can align with federal efforts.

This issue is complex, but the goal is simple: help people off the streets, restore stability, and build solutions that work.

Utah should not be waiting around for Washington, D.C. to decide what comes next.

We had our first Federalism Commission meeting since the end of session, where we discussed contingency planning for our state and how Utah can better manage its relationship with the federal government.

These conversations matter because the decisions made at the federal level directly impact our communities, our economy, our land, and our ability to govern responsibly here at home.

The goal is simple: be prepared, protect local decision making, and make sure Utah is not caught flat-footed.

I love coming together with policy makers from around the country to discuss issues and work together to find potential solutions.

I am always encouraged by the brilliance of what can come from diverse groups of individuals when they come together with a desire to collaborate, work together, and put others first.

Politics does not have to equal division.

Our kids are the worlds’s greatest asset. We have to treat them that way and work to make sure we are preparing them for the world they are inheriting.

When USU and the community move in the same direction, Cache Valley is stronger for it!

This week, I attended USU President Brad Mortensen’s Community Council Breakfast.

President Mortensen continues to do an outstanding job strengthening the connection between Utah State University and the communities it serves. It was encouraging to be in a room with USU leadership and local leaders who are focused on the same goal: creating more opportunity for students, families, and the future of Cache Valley.

A major part of that conversation was how we can expand homeownership opportunities in our region and create pathways for USU graduates to stay, work, and build their lives here.

I appreciate President Mortensen and his leadership team for their thoughtful, community focused approach to leading Utah State University.

Interim has begun! That begs the question, what is interim week?

Looking forward to sharing the conversations and projects we’re working on for our state!

Today is a day set aside to remember the Americans who gave their lives in defense of this country, their families, their communities, and the freedoms we are still blessed to live under.

Their sacrifice is not something we can repay, but it is something we can honor, with gratitude, humility, and a renewed commitment to protect the country they gave everything for.

Today, we remember.
