Highline Lake State Park

Highline Lake State Park An oasis in the desert, Highline Lake is the recreation epicenter for the Grand Valley.

The entire park is open year round for camping as well as day use activities such as hiking, biking, and fishing. Bookcliff Campground is very popular with our peak season beginning in March and lasting through the end of October. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 1-800-244-5613 or on cpwshop.com. Fishing and hunting licenses, as well as annual parks passes and vehicle/vessel registrations can be purchased at the Visitor Center.

Are you tired of the heat and dreaming of jumping in cooler water? 🥵

Highline Lake is the proud venue for the 2nd Annual Grand Junction Polar Plunge, hosted by Special Olympics Colorado, happening this November. The Polar Plunge challenges thousands of Coloradoans statewide to brave the icy water in support of Special Olympic's 28,000+ incredible athletes.

Sign up with your team to take the plunge or donate to a team. Costumes are recommended but smiles are guaranteed.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The park is currently seeing smoke from the Jones Fire, along the state line to our southwest. Visitors who have breathing difficulties or are sensitive to smoke may consider visiting us on another day. High winds are blowing smoke into the Grand Valley.

Although this fire is believed to be started by a lightning strike, it is a stark reminder of how one spark can be devastating and how quickly fire can spread.

** Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in Effect **

Stage 2 fire restrictions are now in place for Mesa County. Fire restrictions are implemented based on specific criteria, including the moisture content of vegetation, weather outlooks, and human risk factors. Stage 2 Fire Restrictions prohibit:

❌ Personal use of fireworks
❌ Campfires and charcoal grills
❌ Smoking, except within enclosed vehicle such as an RV
❌ Parking or driving off established roads

✅ Gas grills are still permitted as long as they have a shut-off valve and stay at least three feet away from vegetation

Combined with current dry conditions and consistently high temperatures, a single spark has the potential to cause a dangerous fire and spread quickly. In addition to adhering to fire restrictions, park visitors are asked to be aware of all other potential fire dangers when outdoors. A spark from a dragging chain on a trailer or even a hot exhaust pipe from a car parked in tall grass poses a significant fire risk.
