A Full-Circle Moment for Battalion 3

On October 9, 2025, at approximately 6:18 a.m., members of Battalion 3 staffing Engine 1 (Lt. Blake, FF St Jean & FF Theve) Ambulance 3 (FF Wood & FF Green) & Paramedic 1 (Lt/P C.Schofield) responded to a patient experiencing symptoms consistent with a stroke.

Upon arrival, crews quickly assessed, treated, and packaged the patient, providing advanced life support care and transporting him to a local emergency department. The patient arrived at the hospital within 20 minutes of crews reaching his side, allowing him to receive the timely evaluation and treatment that is critical in suspected stroke cases.

Kevin was subsequently transferred by DHART to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, a comprehensive stroke center, where he received specialized care and ultimately made a full recovery.

On September 21, Portsmouth Regional Hospital hosted a Stroke Survivors Day, providing an opportunity for stroke survivors to celebrate their recoveries and the teams who helped them along the way.

For our crews, the day was especially meaningful as they were unexpectedly reunited with Kevin.

Seeing Kevin healthy, smiling, and doing well was a powerful reminder of why every second matters in an emergency. From the initial 911 call to the coordinated efforts of our crews, hospital staff, and DHART, this was truly a team effort.

We are incredibly grateful to have been part of Kevin’s journey and even more grateful to see him thriving today.

Helping our neighbors in Litchfield battle a deep seated brush fire.

Last evening just after 7:30 members of Battalion 2 staffing Engine 3 & Utility 1 w/Gator along with BC-2 responded mutual aid into Litchfield to assist with a brush fire. The fire was located in a remote area seated back off a residential neighborhood. Companies utilized the Litchfield OHRV & our OHRV to gain access and control the fire for the evening before planning to return during daylight hours. During their operations personnel were able to create a larger path for both communities forestry tankers to access the area allowing for a significantly larger amount of water at the seat of the fire than the 65 gallons our OHRV’s hold.

This morning at 8:30 members of Battalion 1 responded with Forestry 3, Utility 1 w/Gator & BC-2 to assist with mop up and confirm complete extinguishment.

Crews worked the area for about 4 hours this morning confirming complete extinguishment before clearing.

Another successful make a wish project in the books!

Following a successful project in Londonderry, Make a Wish reached out for our members support on a similar project in Windham. Our members Lt/P B.Schofield, Lt Roberts (Ret) Lt DeVoe, FF/P Jerome & FF Covel donated their time to assist in making this dream come true.

We couldn’t accomplish this tall task alone we were assisted hugely by the expertise of Hook & Ladder Contracting along with help from Windham Fire Chief McPherson, Cyr Lumber, Fiberon decking, Daigle Pools, Hillson Electric, Milton Cat Rentals and of course Wrap City for keeping our members fueled!

We were ecstatic to assist in making a dream come true and love giving back to our community and communities who support us!

On behalf of the members of Local 3160, we want to extend our sincere thank you to both our Town and Department Administration for your vote of confidence in our members and in the services we provide to our community.

Monday night is an important night for the future of emergency services in our community.

We are asking the citizens of our town to show up to the town council meeting, speak up, and support the ambulance contract with Litchfield Fire.

This is not simply another contract. This is an opportunity to add critically needed staffing to our Fire Department while generating revenue for the town.

The contract provides funding that supports additional positions on our line firefighter roster and within our dispatch center—two areas where our community has already recognized a need. In fact, the need for additional staffing has been identified in the MRI report commissioned and funded by the town itself.

This contract helps move us toward addressing those deficiencies without simply asking taxpayers to shoulder the entire cost.

It is equitable for our department. It benefits Litchfield. It strengthens our regional emergency response system. And most importantly, it provides our community with additional resources and staffing while bringing revenue into the town.

So let’s be very clear:

Walking away from a contract that helps fund positions our town needs, improves emergency services, and generates revenue would be more than a missed opportunity. It would be neglectful.

We cannot continue to acknowledge staffing deficiencies, commission reports identifying those deficiencies, and then turn around and reject opportunities that help solve them.

If you care about the level of emergency service our community receives, Monday night is the time to make your voice heard.

Come to the meeting.
Speak in support.
Contact your elected officials.
Tell them you support the Litchfield Fire ambulance contract.

Our firefighters, our dispatchers, our emergency response system, and most importantly, the citizens we serve deserve nothing less.

Monday night. Show up. Make your voice heard. Support the contract.
