Next up is our new Secretary Hamzeh Hassanein. Hamzeh brings with him lots of experience in political science, and a drive for social well-being for all. We are very excited to have him on board this year and for you all to meet him.

Program: Political Science (Specialization in Public Law & Judicial Studies)

Hometown: Hamilton, Ontario Canada

How did you get started in LPC: As someone who has always allied with the beliefs and values of the LPC, specifically in regards to the notion that the dignity of each individual man and woman is the cardinal principle of any democratic society and the primary purpose of all political organization and activity in such a society. I personally felt that it was important to finally contribute to such a great cause and organization so in 2021 during my final year of my undergraduate career I decided to join the McMaster Young Liberals.

What are you looking forward to this year: I am personally looking forward to having in person events in order to have open discussions not only with my fellow party members, but with other Canadian Party members as well so we can focus and put much of our effort in dealing with issues that are so prominent within our society.

How did you get started in LPC: Politics has always been an interest, and I have supported LPC platforms and ideas since we formed government back in 2015. So, I started as a door knocker in 2019, and moved up to volunteer and canvassing coordinator during the 2019 campaign. Since then, I have been working with LPC in many different positions in many different ridings and Commissions. And in the 44th election, I was the Field Manager in SSM.

What are you looking forward to this year: I am looking forward to having in person events that will allow our club to support youth voices within the Party, and for our government to enact critical pieces of legislation that will help move our country forward.

How did you get started in LPC: I became involved with the LPC and OLP in 2017 after interning for my local MP Vance Badawey. Since then, I’ve been involved in numerous election campaigns including both the 2019 and 2021 federal election. My time with the Liberal Party has only reaffirmed what I know to be true: that the Liberal party is the only party truly dedicated to supporting Canadians.

What are you looking forward to this year: I’m most looking forward to supporting Steven Del Duca and the Ontario Liberal Party in the 2022 provincial election!

Elections Canada has recently announced it will not be providing voting locations on campuses. These locations, which allowed students to vote regardless of their home riding, are integral to improving voter turnout amongst young people, especially those from BIPOC communities.

I'm running to be the Member of Parliament for Hamilton East - Stoney Creek and I couldn't do it without the help of great volunteers like Caroline, from the McMaster Young Liberals. I've had such great conversations as I've knocked on doors this week and am looking forward to many more!
