Vrain Valley School Board has voted to place a $260 million bond measure on the November 2016 ballot. Vrain Valley School District is increasing by 800 students each year (enrollment now exceeds 32,000 students).
- If we do nothing, one-half of St. Vrain’s schools will be operating beyond capacity, with some schools operating at 140% capacity.
- Some of our schools are new, but many are older. Cos
tly emergency repairs are becoming more common as our school buildings age.
- Energy inefficiencies are driving up operating costs, taking resources away from the classroom.
- Not all St. Vrain schools have the same level of safety and security. The Solution
Ballot measure 3A is a $260 million bond that if approved by voters would do the following:
- Strategically replace outdated HVAC, electrical systems, roofing, plumbing and related needs, resulting in many benefits:
--extending the useful life of existing school buildings
--reducing costly emergency repairs
--enhancing energy efficiency saving taxpayer dollars
- Add classrooms and science labs in 29 schools to provide room to address enrollment growth.
- Improve safety and security of school buildings with interior and exterior cameras and secure entrances (at schools not already equipped).
- Construct three new schools in areas with rapid enrollment growth.
- Enhance core programs and rigorous curriculum, including science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) offerings, with the construction of a new Innovation Center in Longmont.
- Take advantage of historically low borrowing costs.
- Tackle projects before construction costs go any higher (the longer we wait, the more it will cost).
- Continue to strengthen property values and fuel local economic development with strong-performing schools.
