Did you know? The average family of four spends $1,800 on food they’ll never eat and just end up throwing away. Fortunately, there’s a lot we can do to reduce the impacts of food waste. Joining Hennepin County’s Stop Food Waste Challenge is a great way to get started. Sign up now at hennepinfoodwaste.ecochallenge.org.

Join the movement to reduce waste with the Hennepin County Zero Waste Challenge!

We love food, which leaves us wondering: why do we waste so much of it? About 40% of food is wasted somewhere along the supply chain. That’s like leaving the grocery store with five bags of food and dropping two of them in the parking lot. It’s hard to believe, but we do it every day. Joining Hennepin County’s Stop Food Waste Challenge is a great way to learn more and get support and motivation. Join the challenge at https://hennepinfoodwaste.ecochallenge.org/

This challenge will help you take an in-depth look at the goods we buy and waste we create to uncover opportunities to recycle more and reduce waste.

Face Covering Requirements and Recommendations under Executive Order 20-81 - Minnesota Dept. of Health

Tuesday, August 11th, is the State Primary Election Day. The polling place in Loretto is open from 7am-8pm for in-person voting.

Most things are the same as other election days, including the location of your polling place (279 Medina Street North, Council Chambers), but some things will be different due to COVID-19 concerns:
• Voters and Election Judges are required to wear a mask, per the Governor’s executive order (see link below). If you don’t have a personal mask, disposable masks will be available
• The layout of the polling place will be a little different, to keep social distance. There will be signs and election judges that will help guide you through the changes.
• Consider bringing your own pen. Any regular ink black or blue pen is fine (gel pens and markers do NOT work with the ballot counter). Sanitized pens will also be available.
• You may need to wait while voting booths are being sanitized, or while election judges are assisting other voters. Please be patient and know that we’re doing everything we can to protect each voter’s privacy and health, as well as the health of our election staff.

• Tuesday (2/25) 8am – 2pm
• Wednesday (2/26) 8am – 2pm
• Friday (2/28) 8am – 2pm
• Saturday (2/29) 10am – 3pm
