Stopped by early voting today for the Los Alamos County primary election and had the full VIP experience:

✅ Dedicated voter parking
✅ Free candy
✅ A genuinely awesome “I Voted” sticker that looks like it was designed by one of our local kids (which honestly makes it even better)

And yes… somewhere in the stack of ballots is one with a filled-in bubble next to “Jason Alan Chappel.” That was a mildly surreal moment, not gonna lie. 😅

If you haven’t voted yet:

🗳 Early voting is underway at the Los Alamos Municipal Building and White Rock Town Hall🕗 Hours are 8 AM–6 PM, Monday through Saturday📅 Last day of early voting: Saturday, May 30🇺🇸 Election Day: Tuesday, June 2

I appreciate both the Los Alamos Reporter and the Los Alamos Daily Post for publishing my recent community editorial regarding transparency and the ongoing discussions surrounding utility and GRT increases in Los Alamos County.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to run for County Council was to help encourage thoughtful conversations about the issues effecting everyday residents across Los Alamos and White Rock. Whether people agree or disagree, I believe respectful discussion and community engagement matter.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, and share their perspectives.

Good Afternoon Neighbors!

In case you have not heard, there will be a Public Meeting hosted by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) regarding the NM 4 ALIGNMENT STUDY FROM ROVER BLVD TO NM 502 INTERCHANGE on May 13th at 5:30PM in White Rock.

This project could impact traffic flow, daily commutes, and future transportation planning for both White Rock residents and those traveling to and from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, so community input is important.

You can find more information on this event on my website, ElectJasonChappel.com

I hope to see many of you there and encourage everyone to stay informed and involved.

This Thursday, April 30, the League of Women Voters of Los Alamos will be hosting a candidate forum here in Los Alamos, and yes, it will be my first official forum, so I’m equal parts excited and will probably be a little over-caffeinated.

📍 UNM–Los Alamos Student Center
🕡 6:30 PM – Light refreshments & meet-and-greet
🕖 7:00 PM – Forum begins (wraps up around 9:00 PM)

Candidates for County Council and County Sheriff will be there. Each of us will give a short introduction, followed by a moderated Q&A with questions from the audience.

If you’ve ever wanted to hear directly from the candidates (or just see how we do under a little pressure), this is a great chance to come out.

I’d genuinely appreciate a strong, positive turnout—it makes a difference, and it makes these conversations better.

Hope to see some familiar faces there.

For those who may be just finding this page, I wanted to take a moment to tell you a little about myself and the path that led me to run for County Council.

I was born on Long Island, New York, but I was raised in southern New Mexico. After the events of September 11th, I joined the United States Army and served in Germany and Iraq during the early stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After leaving the military, I attended New Mexico State University and began building a career in retail leadership with Smith’s Food and Drug. In 2018, I returned to New Mexico and eventually became the Assistant Store Leader at Smith’s Marketplace in Los Alamos, where I continue serving the community today.

Over the years, I’ve tried to stay involved and give back to the community that I’m proud to be part of. I currently serve on the Los Alamos County Transportation Board and the Library Board, and as Vice Chair of the Los Alamos Schools Credit Union.

Outside of work and community service, I enjoy cooking, spending time outdoors, and visiting with family whenever I can.

I’m running for County Council because I care about this community and want to help ensure the people of Los Alamos and White Rock have a strong voice in the decisions that shape our future.

I am running for Los Alamos County Council as a private citizen on my own time. My employer and coworkers are not involved in my campaign, and my views are my own.

While I am always happy to speak with members of the community, I kindly ask that campaign discussions not take place while I am working so that I can remain focused on serving customers and supporting my team.

Today I officially filed to run for Los Alamos County Council.

Los Alamos is a unique and special community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to live and work here. Over the years I’ve had the chance to meet many of you through my work and everyday life in the community, and those conversations have given me a deep appreciation for the people who make this place what it is.

I am running as a Republican, but more importantly as a member of this community who believes local government works best when we focus on practical, common-sense solutions rather than partisan politics. Good ideas can come from anywhere, and I believe listening to people and working together is how we move Los Alamos forward.

Over the coming months I look forward to meeting more of you, hearing your thoughts, and discussing the issues that matter most to our county.

Thank you to everyone who has already offered encouragement and support.

Regards,
Jason Chappel
