While rooted in pulmonary health from the beginning, Will Rogers Institute Fellowship hospitals have shifted their focus over the last two years to research the effects of COVID-19, including long COIVD. Lingering symptoms can include fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath and severe headaches.
According to Edward D. Crandall, PhD, MD, Director, Will Rogers Institute Pulmonary Research Center at the University of Southern California, "While it’s unclear how large a problem it will turn out to be as a sustained health threat, Long COVID needs to be studied and especially managed as a public and population health risk."
Long COVID illnesses contributed to 4,055 deaths in the U.S. through the end of June 2022, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
