TRIGGER WARNING: The following interview contains strong language, emotional & physical violence.
Some say that it is the worst pain to outlive a child. It is unimaginable to have to do so. Ms. Renata Flot-Patterson is living that reality as a result of domestic violence. Please join EyeOnDV and Symone Fairchild on Monday, 10/25, at 12:00pm, as they walk with Renata through her journey since this unspeakable tragedy. Mrs. Flot-Patterson details what happened to her daughter, Keli, and grandson, Brix, and how the loss of them has changed her life. She has now jumped into domestic violence victims advocacy, is creating a safe house for women fleeing DV, is spearheading events to support DV awareness, speaking out against domestic violence and more. All too often we hear about how the system failed a loved one who had experienced domestic violence and, sadly, Renata's daughter and grandson fell victim to this as well. Renata goes into the inadequacies of our judicial system, how abuse in childhood leads to abuse in adulthood, the lack of awareness of resources for victims/survivors, how important safety is in these situations, how domestic violence does not discriminate, and the connection between DV and mental health.
A sincere thank you to Renata for her bravery for the steps she is taking everyday in the name of her daughter and grandson and for sharing her story with us.
