Gonzalez won his re-election in November 2018 and was nominated and appointed by his colleagues to serve as Mayor in 2019. As council member, he advocated for increased services to residents and promoted economic development. He has worked with the community and the City Council to pass the first two-year strategic plan in the history of the City of Cudahy, which includes increased Parks and Recr
eational services, a larger presence in both inward and outward communication with the community, and a true focus on economic and job development along the Atlantic Blvd corridor. José works as Director of IT Customer Support for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he supervises and coordinates 180 staff members. He also devises transformative processes in support of essential school functions that impact more than 800 school sites, 60,000 employees, 550,000 students, and over one million parents. He is currently leading the efforts to consolidate an Enterprise Help Desk that will merge customer support for district departments that play a critical role in integrating policies to maximize cross-functional efficiency, stimulate team cohesion and remove silos. His leadership role with the Customer Experience team has resulted in increased student, parent and employee satisfaction ratings from 70% to 90%. Additionally, there has also been an increase in receiving feedback across all stakeholders by continuously refining complex procedures and communication. José grew up in Southeast Los Angeles with his mother, Maria Diaz, and sister Mayra Montero and attended South Gate High School in the neighboring city of South Gate before attending Cerritos Community College and transferring to California State University, Los Angeles College or Business and Economics and earning his B.S. in Computer Information Systems Since then he has purchased his home in Cudahy with his partner Daisy and their one year old bulldog Luna.
