First #fulbrightfriday of 2020! "Recent USC Biomedical Engineer graduate Dillon McKinley from CSI-Cancer and Ph.D. Candidate Drahomir Kolencik from Charles University in Pilsen have more in common than their interest in cancer research. They became recipients of the highly prestigious Fulbright Foreign Student and Fulbright U.S. Student Programs for the 2019-2020 award cycle. The unique phenomenon about it? Dillion and Drahomir directly 'swapped' into each other’s respective labs—an actual rare occurrence within the program."

School: @uscedu
Major: Business Administration

What led to your interest in business administration?
Although I’ve always had an interest in technical fields (computer science), politics, and law, I narrowed down my primary interest to business administration after experiences with managing teams in high school. I loved being a part of big picture planning and developing my knowledge in various different areas instead of narrowly focusing on one. I would say that the quantitative part of the field appeals to me the most, and my favorite classes so far have involved financial and data analysis.

What are you involved with on campus?
I led the USC Model United Nations team over these past two years, witnessing its growth from a small campus upstart to a nationally-ranked team. It has been so rewarding to pour hours into team training, people development, and nonprofit management and see its success manifest. What has been my biggest takeaway from this experience is the community of people I’ve met — both people who have shaped and mentored me and those who I’ve done the same for.

What internships have you done in college?
This past summer, I interned on the technology audit team at Goldman Sachs in New York. Previously, I was on a similar team at Salesforce in San Francisco. As a freshman, I interned in asset management at Rothschild & Co. in New York.

How have you used your Stamps enrichment fund?
In spring 2019, I studied abroad at ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of international business and develop cross-cultural competencies. Similarly, in spring 2017, I took part in USC Marshall’s Global Leadership Program, which took us to Shanghai and Beijing to visit companies that had developed successful strategies for Chinese markets.

What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
I love cooking, especially for my friends. Both my parents come from culinary backgrounds, and so I take any opportunity to try my hand at a new dish. I also love traveling to explore different cities.'

Excited to announce that I’ll be staying in Taiwan next year to serve as the Fulbright Extension ETA for my county of Taitung for the 2019-20 grant cycle, where I’ll continue my teaching duties and help nineteen new Taitung ETAs adjust to Taiwanese livin’ and teachin’. Stoked for another 11 months of soup dumplings, soccer Saturdays, and superb sunsets in a city and country that’s become so close to my stomach and my heart - WOO YEAR 2!

Jamie Kwong ‘18 is a current Marshall Scholar pursuing her PhD in War Studies at King’s College London. Jamie was also a 2017-18 Presidential Fellow through CSPC and was recently awarded the David M. Abshire Award for Most Outstanding Paper by an International Fellow for “Cold War and Post-Cold War Rogies: U.S. Foreign Policy Responses to China’s and North Korea’s Nuclear Weapons Programs”.

When she isn’t in the library tracking public knowledge levels of nuclear weapons issues or at work researching the effects of emerging tech on strategic stability, she can be found training at F45 or exploring the great British outdoors.
