Fighting Modern McCarthyism:
Lessons from Yesterday

Tuesdays at 7:00pm, starting September 30

McCarthyism never died — it evolved. Seventy-five years ago red-baiting, loyalty oaths, and blacklists decapitated a powerful labor movement, attacking freedom of speech and destroying thousands of lives. Though the civil rights, feminist, LGBTQ, and other movements pushed McCarthyism into the shadows, they never defeated it.

Today a familiar playbook comes roaring back. A new wave of suppression by the Trump regime adds terrorist-baiting and demands loyalty to every tenet of white supremacy, patriarchy, xenophobia, and transphobia.

In this discussion group, we will study the history of resistance to McCarthyism to arm ourselves with strategies for today. Together we will answer: How do we go on the offense against government attacks to our rights and our lives?

COMMUNITY SELF-DEFENSE AND LABOR MOBILIZATION TRAINING FOR UNIONISTS AND WORKERS

This training is designed to bring labor’s muscle into the day-to-day battle against the ICE agents and other masked thugs who are terrorizing and kidnapping members of our immigrant and people of color communities.
Participants will learn how to engage in community self-defense and develop strategies for increasing rank and file and union involvement in this fight to defeat fascism before it takes hold.
