Our mission: organize the political power of Black Americans to elect and hold accountable officials who will defend Black lives, promote dignity, and foster economic justice in our communities and across the nation.

61 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act - the law that finally made it illegal to stand between Black people and the ballot box - was signed.

The battle to win the right to vote was long and hard. People lost their lives along the way. But our community never turned back.

Now, 61 years later, the rights we won are being dismantled by Republicans and the Supreme Court, one by one.

We can’t let that happen.

Throughout President Obama's career as a community organizer and a history-making political figure, he has championed one core belief: using your voice and participating in democracy is the way to make the change we want to see in the world.

His groundbreaking presidential campaign had us all chanting "Yes we can!" and that sentiment still rings true.

Today we celebrate him on his birthday by using our voices at the polls for primary elections in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Virginia, and Washington.

North Carolina is one step closer to making it harder for you to vote, giving us another example of why state legislature elections are so important.

The North Carolina State Senate passed a bill yesterday that would lead to voter role purges and new voter registration laws that reflect those in the SAVE Act. The bill is headed back to the State House before moving on the the Governors desk, but Gov. Josh Stein is already promising to veto it. Read more about the bills on Democracy Docket’s website.
