The Congressional Black Caucus is holding the line when it comes to Black voters rights👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

This week, Congress was set to vote on the SCORE Act, a bill regulating college sports and student athlete pay. However, amid the rapid redistricting efforts by the GOP in southern states after the SCOTUS decision in the Callais, members of the CBC united to block the vote directly protesting major college sports programs that have remained conspicuously silent while Southern states redraw maps to dilute Black voting strength.

To no one’s surprise, Republicans in Texas just nominated a Senate candidate that is just as corrupt as Trump. 🙄 This November, Attorney General Ken Paxton will take on Democratic State Rep. James Talarico for Texas’s critical US Senate seat.

Following a late endorsement from Trump, Paxton defeated longtime incumbent John Cornyn, thus transforming the race into a high stakes battle over political integrity. Paxton, who has taken to attacking his opponent in the media calling him a “leftist lunatic” and “Talafreako” has a long history of his own scandals including his 2023 impeachment by the Texas House over bribery, dereliction of duty, and obstruction; his 2015 securities fraud indictment; his retaliatory whistleblowers settlement, etc.

You might not know the name Clarence B Jones, but you have heard his words and felt his impact.

An attorney, organizer, speechwriter, and confidant of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jones helped plan the protests and events for the SCLC.

He was also one of the attorneys who represented four Black ministers in The New York Times vs Sullivan, a landmark SCOTUS victory that cleared the way for the media to report on public officials and their actions without the risk of being sued.

Rest well, Mr. Jones. Know that your legacy lives on as we fight to retain the rights you helped us win during the Civil Rights Movement.

Black athletes and fans make billions of dollars for public universities across Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Texas.

These same states are working overtime to limit the political power Black people have.

In addition to taking to the streets, voting for representatives that will take action, and pressuring Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act, NAACP is calling on athletes and sports fans to join the fight by pledging not to support these schools by spending money on games or merchandise and asking Black athletes to choose other schools - HBCUs and schools outside of those states.
