It’s… 10 PM.
Do you know where your kids are?

Take a moment tonight. Pick up the phone. Send a text. Check in.

Knowing where your children are… who they’re with… and how they’re getting home… can make all the difference.

A simple conversation could save a life.

Let’s keep our families safe… and our community stronger.

I’m Councilwoman Crystal Bast. Have a safe night.

What an incredible evening at National Night Out! ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, spent time with us, and helped make tonight so special. Events like this are about so much more than free ice cream, pizza, face painting, and an awesome foam party from Derby City Fun Factory. They’re about bringing neighbors together and creating real connections.

I’m especially thankful for the partnership we have with LMPD’s 3rd Division right here in District 14. Working together to build trust, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for our officers and our community to get to know one another outside of an emergency is so important. Those conversations, smiles, and handshakes make a difference.

Seeing families laughing, kids having fun, and neighbors connecting with one another is exactly what community is all about. Thank you to everyone who helped make tonight possible, and thank you to everyone who came out to support it.

This is what the South End does best… we come together. ❤️

RIVERVIEW FEST IS BACK! 🇺🇸🎆

After severe weather forced us to postpone Riverview Fest in June, Councilman Jonathan Joseph worked hard behind the scenes to make sure this South End tradition still happened. Finding a new date wasn’t easy with so many scheduling conflicts, but he stayed committed to bringing it back. I was proud to help sponsor this event because traditions like this are worth preserving, and bringing our community together is always worth the effort.

Join us on Friday, September 18, from 5:30–9:00 PM at Riverview Park (8202 Greenwood Rd.) for a special Fall Edition of Riverview Fest.

It may be a little later than usual, but it’s still the same great community celebration you’ve come to love.

🎶 Live music by Sound Machine, Food trucks, Family activities, & Fireworks to close out the night!

Whether you’ve been coming to Riverview Fest for years or this will be your first time, we’d love to see you there. Bring your lawn chairs, bring your family and friends, and let’s send summer out with a bang while keeping one of Southwest Louisville’s favorite traditions alive.

We’ll see you September 18! 🇺🇸🎉

School will be back in session soon! 🚌

Let's make safety a top priority by knowing the rules of the road. Drivers need to know how a new Kentucky law (KRS 189.370) impacts what they should do if they see a bus with red flashing lights and an extended stop arm:

• When this occurs on a road with more than two lanes that doesn't have a raised or unpaved median, traffic in all directions and lanes must stop.

• The only exception to this law is on a four-lane or more road that includes a raised or unpaved median. In this instance, traffic opposite to the extended stop arm may proceed.

The Kentucky State Police's top priority is keeping everyone safe at school, work, home and on the road.

Thursday JCPS students will be heading back to school! 🎒✏️

For some parents, it’s like Christmas morning… coffee in hand, waving goodbye with the biggest smile you’ve had all summer. 😂

For some kids… well… let’s just say there may be a few dramatic “I’m not ready!” speeches happening before they even make it to the bus stop. 😅

All jokes aside, school can be exciting, but it can also be tough.

Our kids today face challenges many of us never had to deal with. That’s why it’s so important that we have conversations at home. Talk to your children about kindness. About respecting people who may look different, think differently, or come from different circumstances. Teach them that words matter. If you don’t have something kind to say, it’s usually better not to say anything at all.

The truth is, we never really know what another child is going through. Some are carrying burdens no one else can see. A little kindness from a classmate could make all the difference.

As everyone gets back into the school routine, let’s also keep safety at the top of our minds.

🚸 Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods. Our streets have started feeling more like race tracks lately, and that’s something we all need to help change. Be especially alert in the early morning when children are walking or standing at bus stops, many before the sun is fully up.

🚌 And please remember to stop for school buses when the stop arm is extended. Kentucky strengthened school bus stop laws, and buses are equipped with cameras to help identify drivers who illegally pass stopped buses. Those violations can result in citations and fines, but more importantly, stopping protects children as they cross the road.

Let’s all do our part to make this school year a safe and successful one.

Good luck to all of our students, teachers, bus drivers, school staff, and parents as another year begins. I can’t wait to see everyone’s first-day-of-school pictures Thursday! 📚❤️
