Due to weather conditions, ROARchestra has been moved to the scheduled rain date on Sunday, July 12.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 8:30 p.m.

Everything else remains the same. We look forward to a smooth evening of Yacht Rock favorites with the Louisville Orchestra.

The Oasis field has received several days of rain, so lawn chairs with wide footpads are recommended for the most comfortable viewing experience.

Some of the best work we can do is not always the most noticeable. Sometimes it’s clearing back brush, improving visibility, and making an intersection just a little safer than it was yesterday. If it helps someone avoid a close call, get to or from a park, or simply get home safely to their family, it’s work worth doing. That’s exactly what we are working on at several locations across District 12.

Being a Southend kid, I am very familiar with the intersection of Cane Run Road and Greenwood Road heading into Riverview Park. If you have driven through there, you have probably noticed how overgrowth has created visibility issues over time.

We are already making progress. Brush is being cut back, we are working with Public Works to consider removing a tree that’s creating a potential blind spot, and a new street light is planned for this intersection in the coming months.

If you know of another intersection in District 12 where lighting, overgrowth, or blind spots are creating safety concerns, please let me know. We will take a look and work with the appropriate departments to see what improvements can be made.

DISTRICT 12 BUDGET UPDATE

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing several District 12 highlights from this year’s city budget and the investments being made right here in our community.

One project I am especially proud to have fought for is an additional $75,000 for the Jefferson County Vietnam Memorial, located next to the Southwest Government Center. This comes on top of the $40,000 secured during the mid-year budget adjustment in December.

Last year, Bryson and I had the privilege of meeting with several Vietnam veterans at the memorial. They took the time to walk us through the memorial, share its history, and discuss improvements they hoped to see as part of its long-term preservation. Those conversations stayed with us and helped shape this funding request.

The memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the 206 Jefferson County men who gave their lives during the Vietnam War. It also honors the three Jefferson County servicemen who remain missing in action and proudly displays the American flag, the POW/MIA flag, and the five military service flags. It is a place of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for our entire community.

This funding will support a comprehensive restoration of the memorial, which was dedicated in 1972. The project includes restoring the bell so it once again rings on the hour, cleaning and preserving the monument and signage, installing fresh landscaping, replacing the fence along the Dixie Highway sidewalk, and ensuring this memorial continues to reflect the honor, dignity, and gratitude owed to those it represents.

Our veterans represent the very best of our nation. Their service and sacrifice deserve to be remembered not only today, but by every generation that follows. I am proud to support this investment in preserving their legacy and ensuring the Jefferson County Vietnam Memorial remains a place worthy of those it honors.

After I shared Giggly Garden earlier this week, several of you asked for a closer look inside. Here are a few photos!

This Sunday, July 12, Giggly Garden officially opens its doors for a soft opening, bringing the first indoor soft-play center and café to our area.

There will be two play sessions on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., with each session limited to 20 children. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome as long as you arrive before the session begins.

You can reserve your spot now at gigglygardenplay.com, and if you are planning to visit on Sunday, use code SOFTOPEN to receive 50% off your visit.

I am excited to see another family-friendly business investing in Southwest Louisville. I hope you will check them out and help give them a warm Southend welcome!

From my first day in office, I have made this commitment clear: We are going to fight to bring a community center to District 12.

Southwest Louisville deserves a place where neighbors can gather, kids can learn and play, seniors can stay active, families can connect, and our community can continue to grow together. Other areas of our city have spaces like this, and I believe it’s time our community does too.

This process does not happen overnight. Projects like this take time, planning, and a lot of partnership. I am committed to seeing it through every step of the way, but I also want this to be something that is shaped by the people who will use it every day.

That’s where you come in.

Would you take just a few minutes to complete this survey and share what you would like to see in a future community center? Your input today can help shape a space that serves our families for generations to come.

They are looking for families - and they just might be looking for you.

Next week, we will be hosting our Southwest Louisville Adopt-A-Thon, where 10-20 dogs will be waiting to meet their future families and “fur”ever homes. Over the next week, I will be introducing you to some of the incredible dogs who will be there - and today, I would like you to meet three of them.

🐶 Winsday
🐶 Thurby
🐶 Oaks

Each one has their own personality, but they are all looking for the same thing: a loving home.

If you have been thinking about adding a four-legged member to your family, this is a great opportunity to find a lifelong friend while giving a deserving dog a second chance.
