A first for Lowell, an all-inclusive playground is under construction at the Kathleen Johnson Memorial Park off Bellview St.

This playground was fully funded through a grant from the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism and by the Lowell A&P Commission. It's part of a larger project at the park, which is also under construction. The playground is estimated to be completed and open by late August.

While the number of teams are less than what was projected by event organizers, the Slow and Lowell BBQ Festival contestants will be taking their smoked meats to the judges soon in hopes of getting a piece of the $15,000 in prize money.
